Sitting with a cup of coffee. (coffee lovers)

Alaskan is Right that is Awesome! Teachick!

Do you recommend the solid sides on the bottom rather than the top? Is that for predators or for ventilation? How high do you put your roosts?

I love it may have to copy. Do the have a run as well or just the open coop? How many go in there?

This is my currant set up that we want to change. 1st pic is run after covering for shade since the neighbors dog has a taste for fresh chicken.

West side of the coop same window on east and west.

Back of coop I have weeded and mowed since this was taken.

This is the front

Thanks everyone for your kind words! Alaskan enjoy your visit! And your summer! @TeaChick and @tjo804 :hugs I've had 2 different incidents of dog attacks while free ranging too. One was MIL dog and the other was 2 neighbor dogs from over a mile away. I still free range though. I locked them in the covered run when I'm gone though. And boy do they yell at me. @perchie.girl and @saltandpepper2 Great artwork! love your talents! I used to do fairly well in pencil but haven't in over 20 years. *sigh* I need clones so I can do everything I want to do! @bamadude here is one of your great works of art! The 2 little ones are the "foster" silkies from my friend to keep her company. Mama is very good and protective so I don't get to pick them up and take pictures. This is inside the run area sectioned off for them. Beautiful feathered feet on her too.
They're so adorable! I just want to hug them! :love

thats just the ones that are still working.... we have been putting objects up ins space since Sputnik 1957 Right now the orbts of objects around the earth will stun you the calculation is 22,000 pieces of rockets... not just satellites http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencet...rockets-abandoned-satellites-orbit-Earth.html I project there is going to be big money one of these days scooping that stuff up and selling it on Ebay.... :lau Realtime google earth video showing whats out there....13,000 satelites orbiting... Not space junk deb
Whoa! That's way to much junk

The website below not only shows all the satellites orbiting the earth but each one has an interactive bit of information attatched to it so just hover your curser over it

it will give you date who sent it up how much it weighed when it was launched and what its for.

And yet people prefer to ignore eco-campaigns to protect the atmosphere ... *sighs* I heard that in Argentina someone created sugar cane powered gas, if so, every car should use it, but we don't :(

all combustive engines pollute.... even if its only in the form of heat. anyone who tries to sell "this is the best ever" is trying to make money off their widget or process or what ever....

Even Electric cars while its not obvious they do pollute... unless your filling station at home is powered by solar energy...

Then there is the whole what do we do with the batteries deal. Talk about pollution... I worked in the battery industry for about a year....

Lead, Hydrochoric acid in liquid form or paste form... thats just standard batteries...

Lithium batteries have their own pollution issues.

so... we have to think down the line... Probably one of the best sources of power is either solar or nuclear...

Right now there are nuclear batteries that generate electricity without neuclear reaction.

pretty interesting stuff going on in the think tanks around the world. People just dont hear about it in the mainstream.

Sounds lovely. Having fun's the important part!!! =) Here are the pics, @Chicken Ladies and @tjo804 : This is the "front". The sheet metal in the bottom left corner is aluminum roofing from a carport or something that was taken down before we moved here; it's about four feet high. This is a walking gate that was on a fence post somewhere in the yard. The sheet metal you can see behind the gate is one of the 26" sheets folded in half, so it goes up about one foot and it nailed to the 2x4 you can see under the gate. The wood you can see above the gate, I have to duck under. I'm short, but I'm not that short. lol As you can see from this angle, we built the coop off of a shed that was already standing on the property and already had an overhang behind it, and the sheet metal we used wasn't new by any means. But it all keeps the critters out. (Speaking of keeping critters out, and chickens in for that matter) the shed is about 8" off the ground, so I bent a sheet of metal and nailed it to the shed to keep the critter under the shed and the chickens out from under the shed. Then we laid 1/2" welded wire and nailed that up the 2x4s that the sheet metal is nailed to at the bottom of the walls; that has kept the rats out (and probably other things that would have been burrowing into my coop). This end of the coop is open for the top 2 feet, the other end is open for about the top 3 feet, b/c there's an angle to the roof (necessary evil, if you will). This is the other side, we call it the "back" b/c it's opposite what we call the "front, b/c that's where the gate is. We used a driving width chain-link fence piece for this side. DH hung it up on one of the...IDK what they're called, rafters?... and he used the thick wires that held the chain-link onto the frame to secure it to the sheet metal of the coop, so that nothing could climb up under the chain-link and get into the coop. It's not windproof, and snakes have gotten in. But the rats can't get in anymore and it keeps out things like opposums, raccoons, dogs, foxes, and other marauding marauders. We did not have a problem with the cold, but we've got cold hearty birds in there. We did put a heat lamp out for them when they were chicks in the fall, b/c it got really cold really early last year, but we took it out as soon as they were finished feathering out (about 2 months for these guys and girls). LMK what you think. =) Coffee. I Rx coffee in very large quantities!!! =D
Love the coop. I'm gonna have to build one soon. I bought one when I got the chick. With all this rain, it's already leaking. So this project just became first on list. I plan on turning run into coop, since I expanded run.

I like this too. Love the big windows.

I have a friend that lives in the mountains... In a house called earth ship. They run on solar and windmill power.
I always wondered why a car couldn't use wind power. It has plenty one it's moving...
