temps still up though.

@Alaskan How about being a ghost in someone elses house I live to feed and drive people.... I would love living in the dark and cold on my own terms.

"On my own terms" dunno... I think we get to do that maybe from age 18 to 28..... Not sure though... Cant remember that far back.

"We" are supposed to get 100 mph gusts and 5 inches of rain over night.... But the weather forecast was a bit sketchy as to exactly where was getting what. :idunno So I am not at all clear as to what my house is getting.

The five inches was supposed to be in Seward, and there is a mountain range and a glacier between me and Seward.... So........ Does that mean I get just a little rain? Or two inches? Or all five?

Trees sure are waving, and it is raining already... I had to send the kids out to buckle down the outside world....... (Sent them out after I heard loud crashing)

Hi Alaskan!!! Wow
ep.gif
did you get hit with any of the really rough stuff? We're under a flash flood watch for the next several days but not really any threat for our little farmstead. Actually should have been wet already but it turned out to be a nice day so far but the storms are beginning to build now to our west. Got all the hatches battoned down and the chooks set up for a couple days of wet so all good.

remember this guy? Well, he had to go blab to the neighbors and,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

mom decided to bring the kids to the apple buffet (notice she's heading to her own table?)
Smart mom. If those three were mine I'd be doing the same thing.
Glad we reinforced the bear fence around the chickens this spring!

Oh... As to the storm... It passed over faster than expected and wasn't so bad here. We often get impressive 100 mph wind gusts.... So everything is built for that.

Sure is nice to not hear the roof rip off.

Oh my goodness... I know that feeling.... we get some pretty high winds here the screens scream....

I want to apologise to you about the "freedom to choose" comment it was never ment as as a poke to you... but after reading it I realized it could have been taken differently.

Right now I am a ghost in this house... I want to go home but am afraid I may have passed right by that threashold.... sigh.

I took no offence! ;)

You are not a ghost. If you were a ghost in that house, then you could leave right now and no one would miss you!

Even if they are grumpy and treat you poorly and don't want to talk to you or listen to you, you know as a concrete fact...if you left right now they would fall apart into a giant mess of pieces and sit in that broken mess until you showed back up to put them all back together again.

You are a super sweet and caring person that happens to be full of love, and is willing to do what needs to be done, even when you are kicked in the teeth in return.

No....you are not a ghost. :old

Keep doing what you are doing, just try to focus a bit more on taking care of you...your diet, and weight, and health issues.

:hugs No fading out on me Deb! I need and appreciate you.

Yeah.... I would be panicked.

Those beasts freak me out because I KNOW my coop isn't strong enough to withstand a full on bear assault.

My coop is so solid it's even homo sapien proof! No kidding. If need be I can lock everything completely. As it is, I lock everything with flat latches with stiff turning center latches AND carabeners (sp?) thru the latch so even if they do get turned you still can't get the hasp open. All the windows are screened, wired and close with double pane sliding windows with interior security locks. If need be, I can replace all the beners with padlocks. (all the gates are similarly lockable). As for the coop itself, it's double walled, double floored, insulated and covered with steel siding and roofing. The door is constructed of thick boards with X bracing on the interior, insulation, and plywood over the whole thing. The door is hung with 10" solid steel antique barn hinges. The whole thing is flush fitted so it would be nearly impossible for a black bear to get a grip. (Fortunately we don't have grizzlies). Oh, and the floor is elevated on concrete block with similar treatment as the walls and the steel siding is sunk into the ground all the way around. In 5+ years nothing has even tried to dig in. We have been working all week making their winter "spa" area more secure as well. I know that might sound like serious overkill to some, but I am sure you understand.
(by the way, I really like your indoor "exercise yard" as well)

In hindsight..... I wish I had gone with Fort Knox the very first go-around.

I shelled out for hardware cloth... But haven't yet installed it everywhere.

I have a bottom layer all around the bantam coop... But I should really make it a box.

And I should at least make a bottom layer of the hardware cloth all around my chicken yard and duck yard/orchard. But I have been dragging my feet... Because dang is it ugly.

But... I already paid for it... So I sure as shooting better use it! :barnie
