Sitting with a cup of coffee. (coffee lovers)

Well 74 here today and beautiful! After Church, spent the rest of the day outside with chickens!!! Visited a friend and her varied flock and then came home to sit watching mine. We all enjoyed the sunshine! Tomorrow's low is 19 with 5 to 7 inches of snow along with a layer of ice. Craziness!!!!

Chicki when does your spring usually arrive? I know it can't be the same as ours down here!
Totally unpredictable, just like it is for Alaskan I'm sure. One year we can work the ground in April, another we still have snow on the ground in May. The one thing that has never changed as long as I have kept garden records (20+ yrs.) our final hard freeze is always the last week of May or the first week of June depending exactly when the full moon falls. Walmart up here always gets their veggie and flower plants in around 2nd week of May and everyone that knows buys quick because they wind up losing most of it to a hard frost. 4 or 5 years ago we actually had a beautiful March and April where it was so warm the ground thawed, the trees woke up early and the fools were planting in their gardens at the end of April. Yep, snow, cold and miserable the entire month of May. The apple crops were lost (buds froze) and everyone's flowers died. I kept everything I could in the greenhouse and didn't lose anything but time.

Looks like it was a very wise call to delay my chick delivery till mid April. Hoping now that wasn't too early.

Our average last frost is March 15. We may get a killing frost until about the first week of April. That ia what the gardeners and peach growers fear here. The trees bloom and a frost comes along and kills the buds and tender plants.

Our last frost is early as third week of April and as late as the 3rd week of May. Usually. But like you said if it comes early and you plant you're sure to get the cold snowy weather. I guess once it did snow here in June but I wasn't around for that. Our forcast for the next 3 weeks looks good down here once we get past this week. I hope you warm up soon too!
