Sitting with a cup of coffee. (coffee lovers)

Tomatoes won't pollinate that cool. They self pollinate so a bit of thumping the stem or shaking it will help the pollination.

@chickisoup : I heard about a woman who owned a green house full of tomatoes. She used an electric toothbrush; she just turned it on and touched it to the stems of the plants to pollinate them.

I think I only heard thunder twice while we lived in Anchorage.

A tinto verano is red wine mixed with something similar to Sprite. The Spanish drink it a lot in the summer when it is very hot and you need a little more hydration.

As for kids (adult or otherwise) CHORES!!! 'Nuf said.

Ah, thank you! =) I drink iced tea for hydration.

(Not really, but I do like it to cool down and it's nice with most of the dinners we eat too.)

Thanks Hagar but pollination's not the problem. Had lots of that when it was warmer. Problem now is flowers are no longer forming and the fruit I already have is not ripening because of the night lows are now consistently in the 40's which is slowing the maturity rate to the point that they'll not make it before the first hard frost due in a few weeks. Going to be lots of green tomato stuff being cooked.

Well, scratch what I said about the electric toothbrush.

On the yummy side, The Joy of Cooking has a wonderful recipe for "Fried Green Tomatoes".

Evening everyone!
Sorry I'm not as chatty lately. Been too busy!!! Hope you all are having a great summer! Not much of one weatherwise here. We did have a beautiful high of 69oF today with a nice breeze which made it great for working outside and the critters are loving it. Except for a bit cooler, it's supposed to be the same for the rest of the week so I should finally get most of those projects the weather wouldn't let me get to like painting, everything.

Alaskan=thunder, really??? wow. There has been some really nasty weather the last couple days but we've gotten none of it. We actually need some of the rain now. Just can't win this year.

That's the low here this time of year (69F).
Breeze is nice. =)
Hope you get the rain you need after your projects are done! =D

Where are you located when tomato growing seems more difficult there than in Finland? Our cherry tomatoes are coming along nicely here.

WHEW!!! Finally able to get back on!!! My ISP decided yesterday that this site was "evil" and wouldn't let me get back on then this morning I kept getting illegal redirect errors so I had to clear my cache, run a cleaner and all that fun stuff before I could log back in!

Boy am I glad I didn't run out of coffee!!!

Oh, and now the BYC emoticons won't work! (insert falling down face first emoticon here)
th.gif

I have no idea what the first stuff meant, except that you couldn't get on but now you can. Super glad you're on!!!
hugs.gif

I'm glad you didn't run out too!!! I get coffee tomorrow. =) I've been thinking about having Via in the afternoons, but I don't think that anyone here would like the effects of that.

Is that better on your emoticon?

After a certain point, tomatoes only need heat to ripen, not sun. We have had luck the last couple of years collecting the green tomatoes prior to first frost, putting them on trays, not touching, under our couch and they will ripen. Some won't but we had tomatoes into December last year. I've never heard of the couch trick, just the paper bag trick. If I had a couch, I'd try it out. I like them fried too though.

Technology. I have had issues with BYC lately that sometimes I hit quote and it takes me to reply but there is no box and the computer won't let me type. That is happening on more than one computer/device so it isn't in my equipment.
BYC misbehaving??? nah!
I'm IT challenged in the first place; DH keeps my computer behaving pretty well for me (but when the website doesn't cooperate, there's not much he can do).
Hope things get better!!!

Oh, interesting tidbit.

Monday I came home at lunch and was doing a round of all the animals, making sure they had food and water.

I looked into the white chicken tractor and saw no quail (it has three quail and a bunch of 8 week old chicks.)

I counted the chicks several times, yep, all chicks, no quail.

I looked around, found a tiny spot where the chicken wire had been pulled back just due to use, just big enough to lose a quail.

I called the kids, and kid#2 crawled into the coop and found one quail. I asked what sec, he said a girl, I said are you sure, he said yes. Right then, I heard a quail rooster crow (or whatever they are called). We looked, there against the house, in the tall grass and weeds (nope, we have done no mowing or weed eating this summer) was the male! We caught him up, and looked and looked for the second girl, couldn't find her.

I obviously spent the next hour reinforcing that white tractor, LOTS!

This morning, when I went out to check the chicks, there was the second girl, coming out of the thick bush on our slope! I was close enough to the house that I could bang on the window to rally the boys. They all came out (one only with undies and a shirt), we corralled her, caught her, and popped her back into the newly reinforced white tractor!

Glad you got all three back!!!

Didn't we have enough conversations about over ordering eggs a few months ago????

I must like the abuse. I have hatching eggs at home that have been shipped to me. They are fairly local, from Santa Rosa to Woodland, California is only a couple of hours by car.

I hope they hatch this time! This is my second try with Crested Cream Legbar hatching eggs this year.

Extra coffee at work today. State inspectors are here for our Annual Survey so longer days, more coffee but not by the koi pond.

When DH worked in retail as a grocery manager, he didn't get home until 5am when they had quarterly inventory. He normally got home about 12-1am. So glad he's not in retail anymore!!!
Hope you're able to get back to the koi pond soon!!!

Yep.

The only down side is all Admin. staff has to stay in the building as long as the inspectors are here. That really stinks when it is past regular go home time and you have all your work caught up. That is why I am on the computer early. I got most of today's work done yesterday so I think I can goof off a little.

Goof off time!!!!

I hope your hatch goes well!!! =D

Got my rain!!!

A nice hard, straight down rain that gave everything a good soaking. Had a bit of lightening but could have used a few more to release a bit more nitrogen to help things green up a bit more. It was really cute afterwards to watch all the critters come out to play in the puddles
