Sitting with a cup of coffee. (coffee lovers)

Hi chickwhispers!
Will post pics as soon as I figure that out and that will be when I take the time lol, New camera that is fyi compatable and I haven't taken time to figure it out.I also need to paint the inside of mine. We built this coop from treated plywood from large shipping crates from a new whole foods grocery in Asheville. So all the lumber was no cost to us. Had I known how much we had access to I'd have made it much larger. Anyway I bought paint with primer at Lowe's and didn't think about using some thing on it before the paint so when I took masking tape off darned if some of the first coat came off with the tape.the paint specialist told me that the paint I had put on the ceiling inside (aqua blue) might flake off if I hadn't used kiltz. So before I put to much more effort into painting I'm going to give it awhile to see what happens.wonder what happens if chickens eat paint? Good grief I hope your painting goes a bit better! Winter might come early for you buckeyes! I have family in Ohio, south eastern part of the state.

Well, for my day off I Had coffee and donuts for breakfast, came home, feed llamas and sat with chickens, went to hear my hubby speak at a luncheon, did laundry, canned jalapenos, set up a booth at the fair, took kids to church, washed chickens to enter in fair tomorrow.  Is that a day off?  :th

I know you will be happy to go to work tomorrow for some relief.

I can't wait! It was a little cooler yesterday and I started a hoop coop of sorts but it was too hot today to touch it at 8 am! Made some pepper sauce today though.
I have not seen the Sandhill or Whooping Cranes hesding South yet. They are usually good signs of Fall and Spring here.

Thanks Chickisoup! And yes, there is a lock on the top and bottom of the pop door that you can't see in the photo. There is also deer netting all across the run which I'm told I should remove before it snows or all the walls will fall down (Alaskan).

definitely remove the netting. I love the stuff too but Alaskan is correct, wet snow will stick to it like velcro, turn to concrete, more will pile on and down it all comes, sigh.

I have heard.... That in the interior of Alaska, you can actually use things like net or chicken wire on the top of the run. The snow is so dry up there that it doesn't stick to anything.

I keep my water outside....unless it is ultra windy blowing cold, and then my boys start feeling sorry for the chickens and put the water in the very well ventilated, uninsulated, sand over dirt floor shed part of my coop.

I do not think there is much risk of the chickens waking up early and needing a drink of water before you let them out.
1. It is so dark, they are going to be sleeping in too
2. The water will probably be frozen solid anyway.

I am SUPER paranoid about frost bite. My relative humidity can be so high here, I really prefer the water far far away from where they sleep.

Whew!!! lots of coffee today and hopefully a little break at work. Fair week.

We will be out every night with fair activities. Poultry judging today. We have Bantum Cochin frizzle cockerel, Sumatra Cockerel, white silkie cockerel, & a Silver Grey Dorking Pullett. I am expecting 1st premium on them except possibly the frizzle. We just threw him in as he is so darn cute and is always a favorite with kids. You don't see too many frizzles here. Don't know about the possibility of rosettes. We aren't a large fair and in the past, we have won at least one Grand or Reserve every year with our entries but there are more this year than previously which is great as I love to see more folks involved. However, we have a lot of mix breeds, which are allowed by our fair, but I hope the judge takes purity into consideration. The one the last two years did, but the year before did not. I think kids who take the effort and expense to procure pure breeds should get some extra credit. (Of course I am a bit bias about that

A nice CRISPY 27o F this morning. Bye bye gardens.

I didn't get out to the coop fast enough this morning (actually I just wasn't in a big hurry, brrrrrrr) and the girls did their morning "thing" inside the coop.
WOW!!! They all came RUNNING out for good reason. That coop smelled like a boy's locker room after lunch on Taco Tuesday!!!
