Sitting with a cup of coffee. (coffee lovers)

Deb, sometimes being lazy pays off

Thanks to that video you guys learned something new about Finland again. We consume a bit over 2 pounds of coffee per person per month in this country. We're also the biggest dairy consumers in the world.

I like dairy!!!

In the states, everyone wants to believe that their child is 'Above average". At least half of them are. But 50% shouldn't be something to strive for.
Now, two standard deviations above the mean, yeah, aim for that.

But the bumper stickers would have to be longer and take up too much room.

too long for the bumper stickers...

I say, as long as your kid learns to support him- or herself and is happy, that's a job well done. Of course you should always strive to better yourself, but not everyone is meant to become a doctor or an astronaut. The world needs plumbers and mechanics as well.

And stay-at-home-moms, don't forget us, and sanitation engineers (SAHMs need someone to talk to at parties).

I agree totally.
I just do not like how it has become more important to have bragging rights than to actually care about the whole package. Smart is good, educated is good, but kind is better. Generous and thoughtful are better.

There are also different categories of intelligence, and the kid that flunked math will never be the the life saving surgeon, but he might be the musician that puts smiles on our faces.
Or the chef that writes our favorite cook book.
We need the entire spectrum.
Yup
Yup again.

Haven't checked those out. I think you could find the discworld series as e-books, I started reading on my phone, it's pretty handy. If you get one of those kindles or something similar, even better.

I read on my phone too. It's great not to have to juggle an actual book (and rip pages or spill coffee on it, not to mention that I can't take books into my chicken coop but I do take my phone in there all time time)... yeah.

Doesn't that move the mean which means that more than half of the population cannot remain 2 standard deviations above the mean.

Not necessarily, only if your child doesn't keep improving with everyone else. If that's the case, then your kid eventually is just average again.

Yes! that is the point. Apparently each generation is smarter than their parents. Which means I am going closer to the mean than when I was a child, our children are surpassing us.
it's not dementia. They are just wedging us out.

AND there are more of them than us. My son will need a bumper sticker that says," Mom is still hovering around average."

Hopefully. I keep losing my coffee in the microwave, so... he might not get to brag.

@ your DS's bumper sticker!!!
I KWYM. I lose my coffee everywhere, but I'm not losing my eyeglasses on top of my head yet! Whew! I have glasses, but they're too much of a pain, so I don't wear them but once in a while.

I love the ignoring of reality of this!

Back when I was taking Psychology classes, we were taught that the average pulls to itself. Meaning that intelligent parents were more likely to have children that went down to the average so they would be less intelligent than the parents.

The same holds true for beauty and good looks.

Ignoring reality is fun!

Sitting here with a cup of "lite" coffee.

Today is the first day in a couple of weeks I've been able to drink more than a half of a cup and I'm taking advantage of it!
I picked up a cold "bug" the other week. Lasted about a week. Then some other kind of "bug" also lasted about a week. And through both weeks allergies are nasty this fall. Trying to catch up on everything before the snow flies! The inside of the coop painting will have to wait until spring.

but I still plan on painting the outside and finish the run. Weed whacking is once again waaayyyy behind!

Does anyone have any Ideas on how to fatten up a pullet? I have a BCM that had an impacted crop for a while earlier this summer. I gave her wet mash with oil and she finally grew enough she passed it and you can't tell she's had any impaction, but she is lowest on the pecking order and now very skittish and very skinny! I like to fatten her up in a good way not with junk food. but so far she's not getting any fatter just still growing. I give them wet mash about 3x's a week. they don't get alot of treats. I also give them BOSS 1 or 2 x's a week.

Fermented Feed.... just throw some in a container and wet it then wet it again untill its had enough and wet it again till there is a teeny bit of water on top.... Let it sit till youstart seeing some bubbles comeing up... and you can start feeding it.

There are Others here who use it so theycan expand on its use better. If I could do it I would....
