@TeaChick - sorry about the Cochin. It's tough enough doing what must be done, without putting kids into the mix. I've lost count of how many rabbits have lived out their lives here for no more reason than that one of my kids "claimed" them.

I KWYM. We don't take in wildlife (usually, there was the baby bunny that I tried to nurse back to health when it had been abandoned and apparently gotten into a fire ants nest....) I digress.
Thank you. =)

Awww.... um why process?

She had 2 Cochin roos, one LF and one Bantam. The LF roo isn't that good a roo and the Bantam roo is stellar. We can't keep two pet roos, it's bad for the girls.

the tea sounds AWESOME I might need to go make some spiced ginger lemon tea now otherwise I am sitting next to the pellet stove n chick gazing lol

Awww!!! I'm looking forward to chicks next weekend. Eggs in the bator, candle tonight.
Enjoy your tea! =)

on the topic of snuggly bantams....

Do they need to be black?

My kids spend a great deal of time snuggling our d'uccles. I keep wishing we could trade out the d'uccles for d'anvers. Supposedly the d'anvers are just as sweet, but they have CLEAN feet, and rose combs. They also have SO MANY colors. Look up boggy bottom bantams.

Totally drool worthy. If we didn't already have the d'uccles, and if the d'anvers didn't cost money

shush! super quiet! Spouse just walked into the room, I was doing stuff, walked back to the couch, and noticed that I have melted some chocolate into the leather couch. I tried getting it up, but it looks welded...thought spouse would notice, I stuck a paper towel on the spot, and am now sitting back down on top of it.

How will I get this cleaned up without spouse seeing it?

No, black is not an absolute necessity. She would like to have at least one black pullet. DH and I think it might be a good idea for her to have at least one smooth black pullet, so she can breed smooth black babies. We know that she's going to be happy raising them from babies regardless of what color they are. I like the idea of a bunch of different colors, especially since black is super recessive (or so I've heard).
I'll check out boggy bottom bantams.
