Sitting with a cup of coffee. (coffee lovers)

Given that bees travel great distances to collect nectar, how can honey be 'guaranteed' as organic?
I have no idea. Although, "organic" doesn't have very strict guidelines.

I have a wife named The Princess, and I believe she has caused me to become OCD - or is it the caffeine? Her second nickname is 'The Bulldog'.

My DH calls me "the ornery one". <we really need a hands-on-hips emoticon>

A strong cup of coffee this morning but its going to take more than one to get me going. Today's list: mow the lawn, plant the irises, and finish cleaning out the east garden. Oh! And take time to play with the chickens!
yippiechickie.gif

I had a Frapiccino, not coffee, but kind of close to coffee flavored. =\
DH wanted to mow the lawn today, but we had to go grocery shopping instead. I need to figure out tilling a plot for a garden.
As for chickens...Snoodle and my Orpington cockerel. =(

Good morning friends.

I think I am going to need several espressos to get me thru this day. Started out early because it was too hot and muggy to sleep in for me our the chooks. Hubby slept in a bit which was just fine by me, good hubby. He finally crawled out and plopped on the couch in front of the fan where I was able to give him a huge hug and "I love you" and tell him a huge "Happy 20th Anniversary"! I spent most of my adult life as a single mom (married and divorced very young) with no intent of ever re-marrying when this knight in shining armor rode into my life. Funny how you can not even know you need rescuing until you are
smile.png

Then, I no sooner started for a fresh cuppa when the phone rings. It is the wife of hubby's brother. With a quick apology for calling so early, she asked to speak with Pa (never a good sign). The brain tumor has returned for my sweety's brother and it's bigger than before.
th.gif
He's on meds to try and shrink it and they meet with the neurosurgeon on Thursday to set the date for the next surgery. Your prayers for him and my sweety would be greatly appreciated.

I think I need to go outside and get a little chicken therapy now.

My mom was an amazing single mom and ended up re-marrying after me and my brother were grown and married ourselves. I'm so happy for her that she had the chance at having a happy marriage in her life. =D He's passed now, but they had something really special and I'm happy for both of them, and you and your hubby too.
love.gif

I'm sorry to hear about your BIL's tumor.
hugs.gif

Dear God, please help Chickisoup's hubby and his brother (and his wife) in dealing with this brain tumor. Please give all of them Your Strength and Wisdom. In Jesus' Name. Amen.
Yes, I Rx lots of chicken therapy for you and lots of hugs (and alone time if needed) for your hubby.

Try some Tupelo honey.

I'll have to see if I can find that. Thanks! =)

I love Tupelo!
Okefenokee swamp honey!

Oh, I should be able to find that around here.

@ocap

Knife? Were we talking about processing knives? I like any super sharp one (I prefer at least two very sharp knives per bird) kind doesn't matter two much, but I do really like the skinning knife that has a hole for your finger.

@3goodeggs

Marvelous pictures today!
big_smile.png

@chickisoup

So sorry. Always a great burden. I will pray too.

I have cut down to one cup of coffee a day...

I am NOT sure it has been a good idea!!

Oh, speaking of using two knives per bird. I do have another knife I use; it's an old Farberware steak knife that DH has to sharpen, it gets dull fast, but the Mora knife stays sharp really well, and DH sharpens it for me every time...He takes such good care of me.

A skinning knife with a hole for your finger sounds good too. =)

It usually isn't a good idea to cut down, especially suddenly. =(

Honey forTeachick.
We are picking up our hive soon, so I have honeybees on the brain.

3f9cc777723bcecdc0bd74cafef49d30.jpg
Thanks, Hon! =)
I want honey bees too.
droolin.gif

Another theory is that radio towers mess with the bees sense of direction and so they can't find their way back to the hive. A lot of different things play into the decline of bees (along with honey) I think. I like bees.

Yeah, they're really sensitive creatures.

I am completely organic with my plants and as much as possible with my critters. I planted flowers in amongst my crops long before it was "discovered" by some new age gardener. I have seen fewer pollinators this year than ever before but we did have the worst,as in coldest and deepest, winter on record. My other problem is I am not far from some large potatoes fields and that farmer has the definite "nuclear holocaust" approach to farming.

Same here (except for the potato farm nearby), but the ppl around here think the "nuclear holocaust" approach is the most modern and best approach to plant and critter farming. Ugh!
I'm "weird" b/c I free range my chickens and now I'm going to get an earful b/c I've got to call the electric co and tell them I don't want "environmentally friendly herbicide" sprayed in the ditch in front of my house, b/c my yard slopes down from the ditch toward the back of the property, then I'm probably going to have to call the city, and......Just ugh!

mostly German stiff neck garlic and multiple herbs for cash crop but we also do a lot of paste toms and beans for our own use and some farmer market.
BTW-picked my first beans last night so I need to go dig a few gold potatoes and pull some garlic and a couple onions.
Toss them all together in a pot with some good honey smoked bacon and................supper! YUM!!!

Can I come eat at your house????
droolin.gif

Eating your own yard and garden is a wonderful thing!!!

coffee, bagel with cream cheese
good morning

I so want a bagel w/ cream cheese......
droolin.gif
and

and more
droolin.gif
and then resignation
caf.gif

Oh no, started reading this thread a bit and now I'm craving a bagel. Too bad there aren't any decent bagels to be found in this country.

I bet there's a YouTube video that could help you make your own. =D
The most important thing is to boil them.
Welcome to the thread!!! and

Good Morning everybody!
My berserker puppy is finally down for her morning nap. so I can drink my coffee.
(HEY! It's cold. humph.
hmm.png
)

Sour land,
I want beagle puppy reports.
why do you have to bottle feed them?

I will never go without a puppy again. It keeps the older dogs active, and me really happy.
Happy is good.

Life is all about the now, and nothing is as 'now' as this puppy.
'NOWNOWNOWNOWNOW'
or, barkbarkbarkbark'.. Occasionally I will get the cutest Little 'woooowooowoo.' When she is really happy.
I have not translated that yet.

I like the idea of having ONE puppy around, but I'm over whelping our own!!!

Morning everyone! On my second cup of coffee and having toast with homemade apple butter! I only have 3 jars of it left. I need fall to get here so I can make more before I run out!

Oh, toast!!! I don't have those grain things as much anymore. =(
But my girls make wonderful scones almost every Saturday morning.
droolin.gif

Ooooooooooh, glad you reminded me! Apple butter on my English muffin, yes! off to the canning closet to grab a fresh jar before I go outside
big_smile.png

Oh, yeah, and English muffins....I'll have to get DH to make Eggs Benedict soon.
droolin.gif

I'm using the
droolin.gif
emoticon a lot today. lol

Those Swedes know how to make a decent and affordable knife, those Mora's are pretty ok.

Yeah. It depends on what you're looking for and what you want it to do.
Mine does everything I want it to and I'm extremely happy with it. =D

Okay, now. I'm having a problem. Technically two, but....

1. Snoodle seems to have lost control of her legs and vent muscle(s). She seems to be able to use her tail, but nothing south of that. Her crop is HUGE!!! And it feels like there's something in her abdomen, feels like it could be an egg but it might be something else. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I gave her two warm baths this afternoon; one to lose all the poo and stuff stuck to her feathers, and another a little warmer to try to help move things along.

2. My Buff Orpington cockerel (8 wks old Saturday): both legs were swollen yesterday morning, when I put him out to free range with his girl friend. One leg started seeping and it's gone down completely. The other one started seeping a few hours later, but it hasn't gone down really and it doesn't seem to be seeping anymore. He's not acting sick, he's acting like he's in pain and feeling miserable (and his girl friend said that he's complaining like a baby like all the time), but he's up to chasing her around for worms.

Any and all advice, input, experience, etc. would be greatly appreciated!!!

I am so sorry!

Snoodle may well be past saving. The crop stops emptying when they get close to death. The most likely cause is an infection from internal laying. What I do for them is move them to a Pet kennel and give them vitamins, plain yogurt and moistened feed and water. If they are suffering and it does not look like they will make it, I euthanize them. They go in for a free necropsy after that to see what was wrong with them.

The Buff is at the correct age for Cocci but the symptoms are odd for that. It sounds like an injury.

added: I do not use anti biotics but those that do use them would try using it now. If it is internal laying it will not help usually.

Thanks, Ron.
I was afraid she might be egg bound. =(

So sorry about Snoodle Teachick. Sadly, I agree with Ron. The first thing I thought when I was reading was peritonitis caused by internal laying. Sounds like the poisons in her body have about run their course. you Could try Tylan, but honestly you probably would just be delaying the end. Separate her so she is not picked on and comfortable and follow Ron's very good advice.
So sorry. As for your Buff boy, I have no clue. I would really suggest you pm Dawg53.

Thank you so much for your kind words and I really appreciate the prayer. I could feel the voice. I do chicken therapy and pa does tractor therapy. We now have newly graveled driveway.

How did you know we are having eggs Benedict for Sunday breakfast to celebrate our girls getting over their molt and back to work???
