Cooooooold today, very cold. I haven't yet cleaned everything out around the monitor heater (space heater that attempts to heat the bedroom side of the house) so that is not going to be turned on. The fireplace is going, but it only heats the living area side of the house. Ah well......it must be in the 20s to low 30s.


The chickens in the vegetable garden look a bit cold.....they have been living under a table.

We put a tarp over three sides of the table to at east cut down on the wind, and they look happier. Having my old naked hens in the vegetable patch has been a perfect idea. Such a giant area for only 3 old hens and three young bantams meant that for the first time, the old ladies stopped feather eating, and had been growing back their feathers. super sigh on that. I am thinking that they will have to be moved out of the garden by next week sometime. Not sure though....maybe with the tarp the table will be OK until the snow builds up. The garden has raised beds, so there are places for the chickens to hide from the wind besides just the tarp covered table. I will just keep an eye on them.

I may never go to sleep tonight! I decided after a fried chicken dinner we needed something sweet. So I made a coffee cake. Then I thought what goes with coffee cake.... Well coffee of course! So now it's fricken midnight, I'm eating another piece of cake and on my 4th cup of coffee tonight!
