Thanks Aaskan!!! That my friend was a very beautiful description and almost enough to make me want to move there. Then I remembered just how loonnngggg and C C C COLD your winters are. Sure wish I coud take an extended visit someday!

welcome to the coffee thread

bought a rope light yesterday, now to install it in the egg barn.............after my coffee and before spring when I no longer need it

Hi ocap! I like the rope lights. They are weather protected and give a nice even lighting.

Will the rope light be bright enough? The ones I've use have been a bit dim.

I have regular light not led type. I have a 48 foot length on 3 sides of the run and the light was bright enough to disturb the girls in the coop. In side the coop I have 2 warm led 18 inch strip bars and those are enough to have the girls decide it's time to get down from roosting. Sometimes they get down when all i'm trying to do is collect the evening eggs.

I've read they don't need a bright light that will make them peck more. If the leds aren't enough in the winter I'll add a 40 watt red light bulb in a utility service type cord in a protected spot. But sofar the leds come on at 4 in the mornining until 8 am and seems to be pretty good.

That's the reason all of our sight impaired chickens wear glasses, not contacts.

I read that chickens have one near sighted eye and one far sighted eye, and they just use the eye they need for the job that needs doing.
Have any of you read that? I never know what to believe any more off of the internet.
I need chicken eyes.
Everything is blurry this morning. Off to go do my far sighted job.
I think I'd rather not. The coffee did not work this morning.
I even checked the lid to make sure it wasn't decaf.
