Sitting with a cup of coffee. (coffee lovers)

Thought I would pop in and say hello.
Sorry I've been out for so long. We've been trying to get chicken work done in between semesters.

I need some more chicks.
but, that is the same as saying I need more more work to do.
so, I don't need any more chicks.
Maybe I would just like some. Wanting and needing are often times confused in my brain.

Perchie- if a break does not throw his schedule for a loopdaloop, He probably knows what he needs.
I mean, he is studying the stuff that makes people's brains melt.

However, when you get to that level and that specific area of study, some things are only offered certain years & certain semesters, and it might take two more years to get back on track.

thats what is whirling aroun in his head. Right now he is more than considering changing his majors.... Hes already been offered a recommendation to go for a MFA.... once he gets his bachelors.... Came from left field so who knows where his spinning head will land. I agree that if he needs a break he should take one....THis past semester was traumatic and triumphent in one breath....

Curled up with a fresh cuppa, watching football and waiting for the next storm to hit. Went into town earlier to stock up and I WALKED around the grocery store! No rider, no cane, nope nope nope!!! (but I did have good grip on the shopping cart

)

Got home and went outside to visit the girls (2nd day in a row) armed with a big bunch of fresh collards. They all looked at me like, can we trust this stranger??? until I went "bawk bawk bawk", "come here girls" then I think they at least recognized the call and the 3 red sex-links came running for the treat but I swear they all kept one eye on me!!! Silly girls. All that is but my little Noodle, my friendliest Noodle, my hand raised, oldest hen that would set on my shoulder Noodle. She spent the entire time peeking at me thru the pophole. I also see I am going to have to start all over taming my 3 young Aussies as well, tho two of them couldn't resist at least a bite or two of the yummy greens. Of course they all attacked the greens once I put them in the feeder.

Hope everyone is safe from the crazy weather this weekend. Now it's time to go get a fresh icepack for my leg and grab another cuppa.
Have a great evening all.

I think times are so hard now for the young that I understand his issues. I cannot imagine working toward a degree you are not interested in and with the cost of college..OMG. In "my day" you could follow the studies that interested you and find your niche at the end.

Maybe a break is best and will let him reflect on what he really wants to do.

Showing my ignorance once again, what is a MFA?

Masters in Fine Arts. There are different majors that have this as the option for a Masters Degree.

Like Ron Said Masters of Fine Arts. Dean My son was studying for a Bachelors degree in Astronomy..... a BS or Bachelors of Science in Astronomy requires a minor in Math. This latest math class went too fast and too quickly over his head. they were covering Optics, Phsics, Vector Calculus, and Differentiation of Matrices.... He was doing ok till he hit the Matrices... This was a class that had been distilled from four semesters into one. And EVERY ONE who he know who had taken it had Failed. Even the Grad students Dean knew. Plus there were about a hundred and fifty in the class. Dean even said the Math majors didnt have to take that class. He had already dropped another math clas that was also required.

To fill in a class for his major he had one other general education class to take. So he took a Creative writing class. He can still go for a Batchelors of ARts in Astronomy which does not require a math minor. But he is soul searching if he really wants to be an Astronomy major at all.

During the Month of November he entered a contest called Nanowrimo... National Writers mOnth or something like that. Any way it was a contest where they were required to write a 50,000 word Novella in thirty days. The project helped him settle down from the Anxt of the math class. AND it got him focused on accomplishing something during a time frame.... He finished a day early and earned a certificate.

Duriing that time He was excellihng in the Writing class as well and recived many notes of encouragement from that teacher. His final assignment was to be something he had written on his own. So he chose the best chapter from his Novella. He cleaned it up from the fast writing for the contest (they dont check spelling or grammar) and submitted it. The teacher fell over herself with the complements... and asked him to make an appointment with her.

That appointment was eye opening. Apparently she felt his writing was good enough to go further with it. and Wanted to write a letter of recommendation to go for his Msters Degree in Fine Arts. He has to get his bachelors first and if he goes on the fast track for it in SOME sort of field he could do it in about two semesters. He is leaning toward sociology... But a MFA would allow him to be come just about anything he is interested in in the writing field. Journalism, Editorial work, Technical writing, Teaching, in any field he is interested in... Game story development would be a good fit. Or Novelist I have seen him focus and he could do it.

Right now with the exception of this ONE FLIPPING math class hes been earnging A's and B's His GPA has been a very high B for some time. All within the requirements of his grant money. Yep hes going to school Tuition free. As long as he keeps a full time status and a C average he goes to school free. So he can take a semester break they allow for that but he has to go back the next semester full time.

Now with the economy and no need to find housing or buy food he should be going to school. Thats his job.

Whew wrote a book. Oh and I am learning along side with him. I have been writing a book now for thirty years and to see my boy crank out 50,000 words in thirty days puts me to shame....

Perchie As a parent of 5 I know a lot of times all I could do is pray they make the right decisions. And your son will. :)

He has been a very wise child.... an old soul so to speak. He doesnt make decisions casually .... I know he will make the right one. I have had people criticize me for 'allowing him" to pursue an Astronomy major. I tell them Its his life and what ever he does with it has to be his decision. "But" they say "What kind of work will he be able to do" I just shake my head.... "anything he wants to do" Because when you pursue a degree you get a huge education.... With all the computer and math classes hes already had he could go into the engineering field or the Teaching field, or Technical writing field... or pure research... There is no limit to what he can do....

A person spends sooo much time working sometimes more than a third of their life... It SHOULD be something you enjoy...
