Sitting with a cup of coffee. (coffee lovers)

Hi all! I have some pictures of my chicks that just hatched and they are mixed breeds. someone on BYC told me that I should come on your thread and you could probably help me figure out which is which. I thought I'd give it a try. I have chicks that came from White leghorns, Ameraucana, and Barred Rock roosters and the same group of hens. The person that I got the eggs from was more interested in eggs and not breeding. I'll say one thing. He has fertile roosters. I set a dozen eggs and everyone of them was fertile. I ended up with 10 out of 12 and the chicks are thriving so far. The only ones I would know for sure are from a certain roo I would imagine are the black ones. Barred Rock, but mixed with which. Hopefully someone can help me figure this out. Here goes.

Well, I hope you can see these well enough. The one little yellow chick has black spots on it's lower back. The colors are pretty true. I'm just curious. It's actually a real mix. Some gray as you can see, some with a black stripe up it's back and so on. Thanks for any help you can give.
Welcome to the thread!! I would just be shooting in the dark on the mixes but I would guess yellow are Leghorns, Black is barred rock and the others are ameracana. You probably won't know for sure who daddy/mamma are as one trait would probably over ride the others but I am not a genetics expert. I just think it will be fun to see how they grow out. Enjoy!

The one one with the "chipmunk" stripe and puffy cheeks (at about 10 o'clock in the picture above) definitely has Ameraucana in it - maybe both parents. The blue one beside it also appears to have a beard; of the three breeds you mentioned, only Ameraucanas have beards. Cute little fuzzy things!

welcome to BYC and the coffee thread.

I can't help with the identification of breeds with your chicks. I am too inexperienced. I am not even very good with judging coffee. I do like chickens and a morning without my coffee is terrible.
It does appear to me that you will have a great flock of egg layers!

Coffee, coffee, coffee!!! What a week. My daughter has had a fever since Friday but is now feeling better and headed back to school. However, my hubby now has it so he is miserable. I can't cut out of work because we have state inspectors in the building. I put in 13 hours yesterday.

Luckily I do have a responsible son who is taking care of critters without being told to do so. Otherwise, I wouldn't even be sure I still had chickens.

Pudding Fluff I hope your DH gets well quickly. And what a wonderful son to take care of your critters for you. Try not to over do your self at work so that you can stay well.

Ack! Coffee Ladies Group to meet in the village at the Bistro/Brewery and it has been snowing, so the country roads are a mess.... What to do? I think I'll drink another cup here and contemplate the travel dilemma.

Sorry to hear of the illness in your family. It is always good to have a responsible son to help.
