Sitting with a cup of coffee. (coffee lovers)

Hi cathiesue, I know what you mean about having chicks inside. I have 10 new ones and they will have to be in for probably a couple of months. I imagine that will be fun. So far they are real cute but you know how that goes. Just keeping shavings out of their water and food is a feat. Love them anyway!

You should hatch the chicks with a broody, that way you don't have to keep them inside. If you can risk keeping a heat lamp in the coop to take the edge off, they'll be fine. Our's haven't had any issues with outside temps dropping to -20C and coop temps a few degrees below freezing at coldest.

Sunflower Do you know anything about sexing chicks by their feathers. This little white chick has a tail feather and long wing feathers. I think it means it's a girl. Do you know. These chicks have the long feathers. Hard to stretch out the wing with one hand but the black one has long wing feathers. Anyone have any input.
Sexing by feathers is only possible within the first 3 days after hatching, and even the experts aren't 100% accurate. There's a lot of sources on line about the subject. The best photos of what to look for and other info is on the Chicken Chick's site:

Hope this helps.
