Sitting with a cup of coffee. (coffee lovers)

We have some neighbors that love all of our flowers, and some that really hate us for our non conformist ways.

'Can't please everyone, so I'm gonna please myself." la-da-da-da-da, la-da-de-de-da.
bun.gif

I have to go listen to the song now.
It's been a while since I've heard garden party.

my mom always had that.... the corner of wild flowers and the ugly lawn... the neighbors hate it... I love it

(she hasn't died..she just no longer has time to tend flowers... so has conformed in her front yard)

Yesterday I had a doctors appointment an was unable to drink my morning cup of coffee. When I got home that was the first thing I done was go straight to the coffee maker! Thank God for coffee!

Popcorn for one.

Yeast on popcorn?
Have you ever tried it??????

With some people. Something you cook for your spouse's family reunion. It's not like they like you anyway. With any luck you won't be invited back.
hugs.gif

This is what I was thinking. lol

lau.gif
I do not like the flavor of nutritional yeast either.

Well, that answers my question.

We have 4 dogs that sleep in bed with us, well, 3, 1 sleeps under the bed and he's like a bridge troll that will crawl out during the night and sneak off with chocolates every now and then...I know it's him because he throws the wrappers on my nightstand trying to deflect blame!

lau.gif

I mean, I hate it when they do that!
old.gif

yes, yes it is

Spring, summer and fall....
I could tell. lol

I am good with that. Like I said before, the fact we have her is an accident but I do love the giant eggs.

Morning all. Waiting for rain today. So far it is hanging out west of us but we are projected to be wet pretty much all day.

Had a small scare yesterday. I had let the chickens out to free range while I did some gardening. When the time came to put them up, I did a beak count and could not find the white silkie. I thought, crap, something scarfed her up while I wasn't looking, so I began a search for evidence. I looked in the usual places, llama pen, cedar trees, under things inside the coop. No silkie. I am scanning the pasture and at the far side, I see a little white blob, pacing the fence line trying to go the wrong way.
th.gif
Poor thing was lost. I must give her a hair cut. She really can't see where she is going. Anyway, silkie retrieved; catastrophe averted. Whew! I hate that you had the panic, but glad she's alright.

A question to "everyone":
Also, I have Polish, and they have that top poof thing. So, I read that you're supposed to make a little noise like talk to them as you walk up to them so they know you're coming and can check that you're a safe thing...well, what about trimming their top poof thing? Would that be alright? And at what age should I start doing that?

It's a tribble!
gig.gif

The Trouble with Tribbles!!!!!! I remember that one!!!

Love it on popcorn !!! I also like to sprinkle it on veggies like broccoli and cauliflower.

Oh a Tribble!!! So glad the little Tribble is safe
hugs.gif

NOW I WANT A TRIBBLE!!!!
ya.gif

Really? Does it taste like anything? (and don't say "tastes like chicken" either)

x2

Oh, now I do too!!!

Probably not chicken prices unless it really hits some very big producers very hard. Turkey prices might be another story. The cull (aka kill) counts on those have climbed into the million + especially hard hit is Minnesota, the nations largest producer and it's still spreading. When found in a flock, the entire flock is destroyed. Someone over on the Old Folks thread described how they do it but basically they compost the bodies right on the farm where they were culled to avoid spreading.

Backyard Poultry Magazine in conjunction with APHIS is doing a special live webinar on April 30th (check to be sure) on Avian Influenza (bird flu) and how to deal with it and how to keep your flock safe. For now just keep your birds away from wild birds, especially waterfowl, don't go near anybody else's birds and don't let anyone who has birds in by yours and you should be just fine.

Okay. Thanks! All that makes me feel a lot better! Whew!
Maybe I'll have to see if I can get some turkeys locally and raise our own Tnxgvng turkey (like I've been wanting to do for years now). That's a good angle when trying to talk DH into turkeys...I mean when talking to DH about the totally rational and now very prudent idea of getting turkeys.

Me too!

I actually bought my daughter a Tribble toy a few years back. It was a brownish color so we don't get the toy and the live one confused.

I am anxious to see how things are handled this fall during county fair season. My extension agent said they approved the 4-H poultry chain this year to go ahead since nothing has been found in backyard flocks.... yet.

SHHHHHH!! Don't tell my husband we have another broody. Hehehe. I marked some eggs for her today! Chicken math strikes again!.

I won't tell, but I'm so happy for you!!!
I'm hoping for broodies soon.
fl.gif

I was thinking around that. I have a couple others (variety) that I would like to stick under her to see what develops. Thanks.

I will probably just trim her. She is not show quality due to a hook beak so she won't be going to the fair this fall. I think she would be safer if she could see a bit better but she certainly would not be as cute.
ep.gif
Hey, maybe I can convince my hubby that is how baby chicks arrive!

Oh, that's a great idea!!!
Why hadn't any of us thought of that before???? Way to go, @Woodsdweller !!!!!

Why do the ducks look like they're dead when they sleep?! But they love their teddy

Baby chicks do the same thing. I've learned that if it looks like a chick has fallen dead while walking across the brooder, then it's alive. Dead looks different, but I hate it when baby anythings look dead; although, I'm happy for them that they can sleep that well.

lau.gif
I may have to see if I can find some just for a picture.

th.gif
Unfortunately, he's pretty quick on the uptake.
love.gif
Baby chicks look dead sometimes when they sleep as well. I have been known to poke a few just to be sure.
hide.gif
I poke them when I have to too.
hide.gif
What? We're supposed to stand there and wait around for them to wake up?????

Morning coffee folks!

Great artwork Deb, but, but, but, Tribbles don't have eyes, right????

Love the duckie pics!

Well, now I finally know it's spring even if we might be getting a bit of snow tomorrow because we were visited by a bear last night.
bear-267.gif

Fortunately my main garden/chicken fence took a beating but it held. Pa is outside right now bending it back up. This is not a lightweight fence
but the heavier welded wire type. It appeared as tho "tubby" tried to climb the fence and sort of "squished" it. I'm surprised that the posts held
but we did intentionally place them closer together so there would be no snow drift weight problem. Guess it works for bear weight too! Odd
thing is there is no sign he (or she) actually tried to go further once he squished the fence a bit. The fence didn't collapse that far so maybe he
just didn't think it worth the effort.

Think I'll put the game cam out tonight and see if we can catch our visitor in the act. Oh, he did take a big bite out of the poinsettia I had set out on
the back porch. Don't think he liked it tho cause he spit it out!
gig.gif

Oh, wow!!! I don't think we have bears around here; if we do they're not big at all. Glad he (or she) didn't get any of your garden!!! Maybe he (or she) will associate the taste of the poinsettia with your whole yard and not come back!!!

I just finished processing two cockerels. I will process three each over the next two weekends.

Then I need to decide on what Australorp cockerel to keep.

Time to enjoy dome coffee before riding the exercise cycle....I might need a nap this afternoon....

Way to go on the cockerels! =)

The pretty one! =D

Why not ride a real bike? I'd ride to Dunkin Donuts and get coffee and a donut and then ride back home; well, if I had a bike and if DD wasn't so far away, I would.

Enjoy the coffee! You earned it.

hide.gif
I slipped a couple more eggs to the broody - total 11. I figure a couple won't be fertile, and a couple won't develop so that should give her a good number.
wink.png
In theory. It is all for fun anyway. Eggs were mixes, mostly so if she abandons, I just lost a couple breakfasts.
idunno.gif

fl.gif
I am hoping for the best for you!
