See I also believe that all but the ice water! I drink aprox 1 gal water a day but room temp. I really dont like to be cold at all! Hubbie loves the AC unit and I am not a fan. oh but on a warm Texas day I might like a fan over the AC.

Same here; I'm not a fan of the AC. (Except when it comes to DS sleeping at night, then it's got to be at least down to 75).

It was too hot for coffee.... So I made coffee Popsicles... I'm in love!

We've had a lot of trouble with cocci here.  We start w/ medicated chick crumbles, and then if one starts looking the slightest bit sickly, we start them on Corid.  We've had a few batches where we've had to treat w/ Corid every two weeks.   In those, we've lost half to two-thirds of those.

Oh, and I have a Cocci in chicks thread somewhere.  It's not long, but there's some useful information on it, mostly from Ron.

Oh wow! Sounds like you got it worse than me! I put them on severe dosage, then preventative dosage for 2 weeks total. Haven't seen symptoms since. Surprisingly, I didn't lose any, but it did seem to stunt to growth of my Silkie.

I have three baby chicks, I got them from the closest pet store... I don't know what breed they are

, one is yellow, one is brown and the other one is black.

Just a quick thought as I was playing with my chicks,
I believe Lulu is a male bantam cochin now being a little rambunctious he could not brood in the bantam brooder with the silkies so I was wondering when they get bigger if I keep him with the Standard Cochins and he managed to fertilize would said chicks be BS Cochin? Bantam Standard Cochin.

We've had six male Cochin chickens (three bantam), and none of them got rambunctious until they reached maturaty, and that was only the three bantams.

I live around a bunch of ppl who would read this and then go buy Fraps at StarCharbuck's and then want to sue the guy for false advertising b/c they're dying in the hospital from cardiovascular disease, stroke, diabetes, cancer, liver disease, parkinson's, Altzheimer's, and then they forget to call their lawyer b/c they're also suffering from cognitive decline.

Look on YouTube and search Whole Latte Love. They have a cold brew coffee method video. They're really good about showing you exactly what to do and they fine tune the recipes before they post a video about it.

I have not had cocci problems for two years now. I switched to nipple water systems for all of them--no cocci!

I do that too. DH doesn't let me and DD acts embarrassed. I don't care. I just do it a little and then I stop and behave myself and they're lucky they get that much consideration for their sensitivities.

Yeah, I've had a time and a half of it this year and last. I'm not getting those chicks from that hatchery anymore. Other chicks from the same hatchery, I haven't had a problem with, so I don't want to give anyone a bad name. And that breed is great otherwise, from other sources and on other property. I guess I just have the wrong kind(s) of cocci for that particular strain.

I'll have to talk to DH about that nipple water system. Do you have them mounted on 5-gal buckets or on PVC pipes (or does that even matter)?
Yeah, I've got to buy more Corid; I'm out. Not a good thing to be out of on my property. Thankfully, I don't have any chicks right now, but I've got a broody due this weekend.

Okay, now it's my turn. lol

I've come to a conclusion about chickens: I'm never going to get heritage quality birds out of hatchery quality breeding stock.
I've been trying to work on building a New Hampshire flock and it looked like I was going to be able to get some heritage quality to infuse into my hatchery quality and try to move forward that way, but that doesn't look like it's going to happen.
We went with NH b/c supposedly "it becomes self-reliant and forages happily when given free range." This is the time of year when there are lots of bugs, and everything is growing, so my chickens should not act like they're starving all day every day. But they do. They're always on the porch trying to get into the feed bags, they run straight to the porch (I feed them right behind the porch) looking for food, and after dinner I can't get to the feed b/c they're all over me and all over the feed where I can't hardly move to feed them.
It looks like I need a Plan B for my flock.
So, my flock goals are these: 1. Forages for all (or almost all) of its own food. 2/3. Good meat bird and broody (we haven't nailed down which one's 2 and which one's 3 yet, but we want both of those things), and 4. Good egg production (absolutely no less than 150 eggs per year per hen, preferably 200 or more and/or good laying through the winter, either way would be fine with us) and (we know that they stop laying for about a month and a half when they go broody).
Any ideas on a single breed to switch to or a breed to add to the NHs I already have to improve foraging w/o compromising the size, broodiness, and egg production I already have, or a combination of breeds to start with in an attempt to start working on my own breed?

I know there are several very knowledgable chicken ppl on this thread, so I thought this would be a good place to ask for advice. =)
