Sitting with a cup of coffee. (coffee lovers)

Thanks everyone for the welcome back. Getting everyone settled back into a routine. Saw one chick running around in the nest today so I am hopeful it will at least have a sibling. I am trying not to disturb her too much as I figure she is a bit traumatized as it is.

On another problem: Previous crazy broody mama is insisting on beating the crap out of our duck ever since her chicks hatched. She starts it, the roo and a couple other girls jump in so we have had to separate her and guard her when they are free ranging. I am ready for that crazy mama to step out of the mama roll and get back to being just plain crazy.

The duck is taking up my separation pen so I have no place to move my new cockerels too while I wait for them to grow out. So far they aren't too nutty, but it is time soon.

Sorry chickisoup - I have had no luck with shipped eggs. Hope you come up with something for your girl.

Yes, we will have some stories to look back on and laugh, but it was a very un-relaxing vacation.

Ok... The "it is super hot so let us set up a tent in the living room" males no sense. You find a shady spot with a breeze. Duh. Oooh! Or set up a nice pull fan!

Also... Puddin, that lady not gathering eggs because hens were on nests!

i would have returned to a MOUNTAIN of eggs, many crushed.. Probably an egg eater or two to boot!

Yeah. She wasn't in the gifted program in school, but we expected better than that.
This is the Deep South, if it's hot enough to die, then there's no breeze. IDK why God did it that way here, but He did.

I don't know of anyone but myself and my neighbor (who I gave my extra aussies too) that even have BA's but that's a thought. Unfortunately this isn't exactly farm country so not many folks have livestock or chickens. I guess I need to do a fast check around. I may have to settle for something other than Aussies this time.
Thanks!!!

You could ask at the local feed and/or pet stores.
I hope you find eggs for your broody! =)

I'm sorry about your poultry problems. It sounds like you've got things figured out for the time being. In my experience, chicken keeping has been one big juggling/balancing act, not to mention it's usually musical brooders until I get chicks settled into the coops they're going to live in.

Regular vacations are un-relaxing enough; a particularly difficult trip is even harder.

I think I'll just start posting random pictures, if no one has any objections.

No objections? Great!

These are DD's bantams. They turned out to be Silver Duckwing Old English Game Bantams. She was hoping for Cochins, but they're her babies, so she's happy. =)

This is a cup of coffee my DH made me sitting on my desk. I don't remember why I took a picture of it, but it's random, so I'm posting it. =D

Partridge Cochin chick. They were supposed to be pullets, but this one turned out to be a cockerel. The kids named him Sherman. He turned up dead the other morning. Sad, but at least I didn't have to cull him. =(

Golden Campine chick. =)

Chick hatching. One of the last, I think the last one I hatched. I don't remember who it is, but I like hatching pics, so I wanted to share. =)

My colorful egg basket. I miss getting green eggs!!! My Comets are laying oddly light and somewhat thin shelled eggs lately. I think they may be hitting Hen-o-pause. DH said that I can keep them on the retirement plan, b/c they're my original flock (but the rest of the hens will be culled when they stop laying.

Snoodle when we had ridiculous rain last year. My avi is a picture of her dry. =)

Eddie. I miss him. I gave him to a guy who works at the feed store, and he got eaten (Eddie, not the guy), but he (the guy) got chicks out of him first, so...I might think about asking about eggs from those chicks. IDK Probably not.

A pretty flower. I think it's some kind of wild thyme or wild mint. They're really pretty, so I posted a picture of it. =)

Blue Angels. IDK what the name of the formation is. They're amazing!!!

Fat Albert. The Blue Angels' cargo plane. IDK what kind it is.

Baby birds in a nest. I think they're House Wrens. =)

Afghan I made for DH.

Hats I made. Left: for a BYC friend; Right: for DD. I like crocheting. =)

Afghan I made for DS. His favorite color is brown and his second is orange. I ran out of orange so I had to use white, but he likes it b/c Mom made it. =D

Sort of Steelers colors afghan for DD. She really likes it. =)

Black Beauty, my second favorite chicken (after Snoodle); she was a Black Jersey Giant.

OK... Here are the comments... Sorry, too hard to put in the same post...

1. 5 d'anvers chicks that I posted for sale, and sold super fast :)

2. My ducks, all hatched from the incubator they were the "extra" eggs in the nest of the last clutch (the ones laid in the nest by flock mates, way after brooding had started)

3. Eggs... Clearly little boys hadn't been collecting them like they should... I think that was three days worth

4. The same ducks

5. One of the black Ameraucana chicks I just hatched.
