Morning Ralphie!

Are we "crispy" yet?
Just tryin' to come up with excuses to not have to take water out to the coop and put in the plug in one. Shouldn't be above zero for highs the next several days so it's time. I'm just trying to stall until the windchill gets above -20.

Morning..

I have a nice even 10 below right now, without wind chill.

I have resigned myself to frozen broken eggs. I am afraid my "champion" Show rooster (Speckled Sussex) is going to lose his comb and become a common rooster today.

The tree limbs and leafs are moving in the wind. I wonder if it is a warm wind and will warm the feeling instead of adding to the cold with a wind chill?

I DID IT!!!! So proud of me. I scrubbed and filled (no choice, the way it's designed I had to) the heated waterer and got it out to the coop. slopped some water as switching hands so I could grab the rail and it froze to the steps before I could grab the broom sitting right there and sweep it off so now I have to take care of that mess (hoping the sun will shine on them and make the job a bit easier). Anyway, my girls now have liquid water and breakfast and I'm back in my comfy chair with a puppy for a lap warmer. Oh, and yes, I broke down and turned on their heater so the coop should hold at a toasty 32o at roost level. Floor will still be pretty crispy the way I have it set up so it's not like they are having a spa vacation. Just a good place to run in and warm their toes and not freeze to death on the roost as the night temps plummet this week.

And now and
