Size of Needle?

20 gauge - smaller needles may cause some meds/vaccines to not work as well due to the smaller needle size causing a breakup of the molecules in the solution as they get squeezed through the needle.

Usually, I would use the smallest needle that the medicine will go through. Some medicines are thicker or more viscous than others, especially procaine penicillin G. That one requires a 20 gauge needle, no smaller. Many medications will go through a 22 gauge or perhaps even a 25 gauge needle. Since injections are usually given in the inner breast muscle, or subcutaneously in the back of the neck, only insert it about 1/4 of an inch.
