Skippy has Angel Wings

I don't think he has parasites. I think you're right in that he just needs more nutrients. He hasn't been exposed to water since his seizures a month or so ago. I didn't want him to drown. He's been seizure free for a while now, and with him in the house I will try filling up the tub and monitoring him.

He's on duramycin 10 (tetracycline hydrochloride) right now. Is it okay to add vitamins and probiotics to the water with that?
Why is he on An antibiotic? just curious.

I have 3 other ducks and they all pick on him. His brother might be okay if he is taken from the Pekins, can see how he does with just Skippy. His feathers are kind of rough, but he is puffed up in this picture, hissing at me. He was mad after I cleaned his bill

I got Skippy from a lady on Craigslist, selling ducklings. I don't think she is a breeder, per se, as his first sibling from the same batch died right off the bat. I think it was just a bad batch :( His "brother" I have now is from a different batch, and is a few weeks older than Skip.

As far as his personality goes, he's far more content inside than he is outside. He's spent more of his life inside so I can monitor his health. He's had issues almost from the beginning. He talks to me when I talk to him, but he is pretty quiet generally. He went through a period where he was having seizures, so he really hasn't been exposed to a pool since then. I've been so afraid of him drowning. Now that he is inside, I will fill up the tub and see how he does with that.
I wonder if she is breeding to close.

Be interesting to see if he can float whether his feathers are water proof. Do you ever notice him preening? also wanted to say I am happy for you that he hasn't had a seizure in a while that is a biggie

I put him on it more as a precaution than anything. I don't know if he is sick, or like I said, just odd. Also, his bill looked kind of nasty and I figured it would help prevent an infection while it healed up.

What would it mean if his feathers were not waterproof? It that a symptom of nutritional deficiency? I haven't noticed him preening.

And yes, it has been wonderful that he has been seizure free. Those were heartbreaking!

Preening is what they do to spread the oils over their feathers to make them water proof and lack of good feather condition can also be from a nutritional deficiency.

Mine usually don't preen unless they have been wet.

Okay just checking, you have to be sure he gets some kind of a probiotic after he is finished with his antibiotic to replenish the good bacteria the antibiotic has killed off. Usually feed stores have it in powder and you mix it in their water.

That's interesting! I'll try filling up the tub tonight and see how he does. If he doesn't float, should I continue to keep him out of the water?

You could give him enough bath water daily up to his knees to start with just to get him preening and deepen it as he begins to float. Bathing and playing in the water will get them to preening

Is it better to start probiotic AFTER the antibiotic? Or can I start it during?

Sorry, I know I am full of questions. I've never dealt with anything like this before

Some say after some say while, I know if I have to take an antibiotic I eat yogurt along with it to prevent yeast. So lets ask the med expert @casportpony
I've not had any of my ducks on antibiotics, when I had a few chickens on them I fed them yogurt along with, my ducks won't eat yogurt.
Questions are good that is how we learn.
