skunk in a trap....

Can you put some sort of cover over the top so if you catch a skunk it won't be able to see you and spray? Then pick it up while covered and put it in a barrel of water to drown it.

yes he will spray if you shoot him. if you try to move him he will probably spray. your best bet is a cheap rain poncho, some old rubber kitchen gloves and some sheet plastic to tie around your feet. seal it all with duct tape. then try to move it. at least if he sprays you just have to strip out of the plastic and you don't smell. just remember to cover your face too.

I've always wondered the same thing. Let us know how it turns out, if it happens.

From personal experience I can tell you they'll spray when you shoot them in the trap......they don't have to be able to raise their tails to let loose. They just can't aim as well.

We've caught many skunk in our live trap, they ALWAYS sprayed no matter what we did. What we do is throw an old blanket or tarp over it (one that you can burn or keep for another time) haul it to the pond and drown them...
I guarantee you they will spray no matter what.

i caught 2 skunks when i was trying to catch my neighbors cat. Neighbors cat would come crap on my deck every morning.. would irritate the hell out of me.. I wanted to shoot it but my wife wouldnt let me.. So I borrowed a havahart trap from my buddys hardware store and set a can of tuna in it.. next morning when i woke up.. Skunk.. I threw a blanket over it and it didnt spray until I put it in the bed of the truck.. then it sprayed. took it to the local park about 5 miles away and let it go..

Left the trap on the back deck for a while.. It did smell for about a week but the cat stayed away..

2 weeks later it started up again.. set up the trap... bang.. another GD skunk.. This one had sprayed itself silly all night.. Same routine.. Covered it with the same blanket and drove it to a different park and let it go.

I finally did get the cat.. Gave the neighbor 3 options.. keep it inside, get rid of it, or id take matters in my own hands..

Cat never bothered me again.
