SLAUGHTERING QUAIL

Hi, I'm not sure if I can comment here, but thought I'd let you know about my brother. He started out raising birds, mostly chickens and ducks but when it came time to slaughter he couldn't do it. I on the other hand had no problem with it and he ended up getting me to do it. I of course got quite a few for the deed. I guess what I'm thinking is if you can't then maybe find a friend or family member who can. That way you still get the job done and don't have to feel so badly about it. Hope this helps...

I finally processed 8 of my birds yesterday & grilled a couple last night. It was easier than I expected. My wife asked me if it was hard; although I thought it would be, it wasn't. My only problem is I overcooked the little things.

hurry up tax return, I need my quail!!!
Taxreturnix?

I think of mine in the line of a pedigree. That tells me there will be more, and yes, we have meat pens too.
Have a cut the feed bill day.

I just found this thread. I have been vegetarian for 16 years. I am only 1.5 weeks into this quail raising thing (raising them for eggs) and found a breeder that will take the males back for a small credit towards more chicks or eggs. They have personalities and little joys and fears and it's paining me to count the days down to returning the males knowing what will happen to them. On the other hand, I know they had good lives not factory farmed shoved into small cages. I think though, next time I will just buy some 3 week olds that have been sexed for a little more money.

For the longest time ( I grew up in east Texas ) when I was little up to I was 15 my grandma always wanted to show me how to kill them for meat but I could not so every time she tried to show me when we had meat birds ready to be slaughtered she would always end up haveing to do it with me crying in my tree house yes I admit it I cried over a chicken when I was 14 ok I was a softie. (I usually was with my grandparents when I was little because my parents were in the military) even though I could go hunting and not have a problem. But yeah anyways it's really really hard to kill em I still kinda tear up when I do kill em
