Sometimes chicks eat shavings and die because of it. That is why I do not use softwood shavings until they are at least one week old and know what their food looks and tastes like.I have always used pine shavings and they have been fine. I don't think it is the shavings that is causing this. I wish it was that easy.
It looks like a metal container. Metal heats up and adds to the temperature in the brooder. They might be too hot in there which causes drowsiness and disorientation.no I don't have a thermometer. I just changed to a larger container recently, sorry that was a pic from a few days ago, but everything else is the same.
Yes, because they starve to death and supposing they are too hot in the container all might be just adding up.Last time my geese ate the shavings so this time I got really big flakes- all of them are bigger than a quarter or maybe 2 put together. That is a good idea, but would they be super lethargic and go to sleep?
