Slow Night Here In Quailville

I had a lot of problems with bumble foot, what do you do for yours? It was one of the reasons I decided not to keep any breeders across the winter. Like you, I really don't want to be messing with wood chips. I do enough of that with my Jap banties.

Bumblefoot Is Usually A Case Of "lack Of Vitamin B12" Your Feed May Be Lacking Sufficient B12 For Your Birds' Needs. You Can Try Supplimenting Them With Vitamins And Minerals, But The Hard Part Is That B12 Can Only Be Obtained From Red Meat. Check Your Feed, Usually Most Decent Feeds Will States Somewhere On The Tag "contains Rumanent Bone Meal" --- Basically Bone Meal From Cattle. This Works In A Couple Of Ways As It Supplies The B12 And Also Calcium To The Animals Eating It.

Yes Toby Bobs Can Get It. In Fact Any Bird Can Get It, Quail Have A Tendancy To Be Prone To It Due To Their Different Nutritional Needs. This Is Yet Another Reason Why Chicken Targeted Feeds Are Insufficient For Gamebirds, Along With Improper Fiber Portions, Other Elemental Minerals, Incorrect Protien Portions And Worse Yet Incorrect Protien Sources, Too Much Sfat, And The List Goes On....

My trap is my neighbors 200lb Mastif. Its kind of funny, he gets mad when I go in my duck pen. My ducks get flighty and he barks(yells) at me for bothering them....lol

we had a Samoyed (Husky type dog)who lived across the street that guarded our rabbits ( we raised and showed and frequently had close to 100 at a time) when i was growing up that acted the same way..periodically we'd hear dogs fighting etc. and know that Nikko was on the job.

Completely random and off whatever topic we might have going on here, but I just discovered that tin snips work to cut 1/4 inch hardware wire. WOOHOO. That made my life easier. (Now mourning over previous lost time when using wire cutters for that dreaded task.)

Note to self: Wear gloves next time, though (said while nursing cut finger...)

Yep! I have one cage half cut out. However, I decided I couldn't handle cutting any more wire that weekend and never got back to it. The tin snips were a BREEZE. I will use them from now on for 1/4 in mesh. We'll see if it can handle 1/2 inch. Heck, even if it's hard on them, I'd rather buy a 2nd set of snips & have one of them JUST for hardware cloth than do that task with wire cutters.
