I think it's a cockerel.

No way!! Poor guy! Hope he feels better. Mine is doing well. The breeder had themFunny enough, my boy has coccidia too.
The meds I ordered haven't cured it. I'm trying a second week, and if that doesn't work I don't know what else to do.
It's not serious in the sense that he is acting normal.
It is serious in the fact that if this week doesn't cure him, I can't do anything more for him. I'll get a photo of my boy.
I'm new to the forum and new to SLW's. We have these two SLW chicks and it would be lovely if someone would weigh in with gender speculation. We live in the mountains and could keep a cockerel I suppose, but I think the neighbors are close enough to mind, plus we're not interested in breeding. I know a local lady who would butcher one for us and that might go well if she hasn't gotten too far into the sauce that morning.Otherwise, I'd have to re-home him/them (and who the heck would want them?) or start a new chapter in self-sufficiency. Getting up the gumption to shoot destructive ground squirrels is one thing, butchering a chicken I raised from a fluffy bundle quite another. Anyhoo, I digress.View attachment 2340427View attachment 2340431View attachment 2340432
Thank you. I did post the question in an appropriate thread today. It would be best to start your own thread about this.
5 weeks is too early to tell anything for sure. You should repost when they are 8-12 weeks old. For now, I will tentatively say that Elizabeth is a cockerel and Moonie is a pullet.
