a small backyard coop 4x4. The upper part is covered where the roost bar and egg box is, the lower level is the run. Currently we have wood shavings from Tractor Supply in the covered upstairs part. Are there any other alternatives to wood shavings? Anytime we open the door to the upper part of the coop, shavings blow out. Our backyard is small and we need to keep it as tidy as possible. Any better suggestions would be welcomed!

If you add a larger lip to that opening, it will help to keep the wood shavings in place. Maybe a 2x6" board. You can make it removable for when you clean out the bedding. We wedge in a 2x4 where the red box is in this picture. It helps.

x2 on a higher lip. I use a 1x4 board that's held in place with bricks. When it's time to clean, I just pick it all up, rake everything out.
