Smallest egg I've ever seen!!

Soo guys. I feel kinda dumb because I was so convinced it was a chicken egg..
But I found another one today.

Alright, it can't be a chicken egg. They couldn't have layed an egg this small twice in a row! I opened one of them..

Couldn't get a better photo, but the egg shell is much thinner than I thought but was still very though... And some small blood vessels. Well, I should have tried candelling it or something before opening it :(( feel really bad now.

I'm pretty sure it's from a gecko, and I might try to hatch the other one? There's definitely something going on in there, some blood vessels and some development.

I think what caught me off guard was how similar the colours were to my actual chicken eggs, and how strong the shell was for such a small egg.. And also how I found it with the other eggs!

I'll go look tomorrow to see If I can find any others buried in the straw.
I have a OEGB that only lays tiny eggs. She’s egg bound all the time and I have to keep an eye on her. Right now she’s struggling with egg bound situation. At the egg she will lay a tiny egg. Those are her two eggs next to a Dutch bantam and the BR egg. I don’t know what to do with her. I feel bad seeing her struggle almost every day.

You are not wrong! I bought one of those TSC coops 2 years ago and now have expanded on it twice with more roost space, real nest boxes and a real run. It was fine at first to get started, but the TSC part of the coop is the weakest part by far now.

i got one 2-4 years ago from TSC. I have used it inside my run(I have a large coop) for introducing new ladies to my flock. Also makes agreat hatchery/brooder as we have cats too. But ya it’s falling apart and will probably get dismantled and drug out today.

I don't break them open. I save them in a glass jar. Called wind or fart eggs. I leave them in the fridge for several months until they have dried out inside and then just add them to the jar. I have a bunch now after many years. The three bottom ones in the picture are just some of the ones in the "weird" collection.

And yes, what you are finding are wind eggs. It isn't from some other bird and I doubt that a gecko is going to lay eggs in a nest (they hide them in cracks and under things like boards). They may not have a yolk. Any small bit of debris in the egg tract inside can get the bird to form a shell around it.

Back in September, my hen hei-hei layed this adorable little egg. Took some photos, and when I cracked it there was even a little yolk inside! I was already pretty impressed at the size of this one... View attachment 2005315

But today, I stumbled upon the monster of all tiny eggs.. I don't know how it even is possible for a hen to lay such a small egg!
Not even sure who layed it, as they all lay in the same nesting box.

Length: 9mm
Width: 8mm

Im wondering if there's even anything inside.. The shell seems pretty thick

But there you go, that was my discovery of the day :)
Did you check the Guinness World Record book? Never know......

I keep most of my weird eggs too, especially wind eggs. I take them to my poultry classes as part of my show and tell.

I would make a separate post to the main group under medical issues. If she's young, it can take some time for their hormones to catch up. If it's a consistent issue, it could be that that she's not properly developed and it could just be a life long thing, which doesn't sound like a good way of life for a chicken. This is a really good article, it could be that she's got a deficiency that requires a bit of extra care, even though you may be putting out the right things, she may be lower in the pecking order and not getting to them. I would do the liquid calcium supplement and the ky in the vent on a regular basis and see if that helps. https://the-chicken-chick.com/chicken-egg-binding-causes-symptoms/
