Smoke in the air....

While loss of home and life is not funny, allow me a light moment here.

I'm from California, born and bred.
It has always been a standing joke to Golden Staters that in summer, the fires rage and burn up houses.
In the winter, the fire-swept hills turn to mud which then cascades down on the houses below - wiping THEM out.
Next spring, someone is rebuilding in both places.

Thinking of you all dealing with the fires!! My husband was in California 4 years ago now to help fight fires and he came back with some amazing photographs. Please be careful and stay safe!!

yesterday was bad!! it looked very overcast it was so smokey, I couldn't even see the sun!!

the dogs are inside, the chickens have shade and a mister in there covered area with lots of water & food, thats about all I can do for them. I have 9 chickens and only got 3 eggs yesterday. I dont blame them, I feel yucky too!!

Yep....the smoke is choking us out! Not to mention it hit 108 degrees yesterday....my poor girls are miserable. Doing everything to keep them cool.
Surprisingly....we haven't been overwhelmingly busy in the ER with all the COPD'ers and asthmatics. I think people are staying in and using precautions. As a respiratory therapist, our department has been expecting the worst...but it hasn't come yet. And I work in the central valley.....it has one of the worst air qualities in the nation.
Good luck to everyone!

I was in the middle of the fires in 2003. NOT fun at all, we had a respirator (re-breather) that my husband had for work and we used that if we had to go outside. (I was pregnant at the time)

We had an air purifier, which we used 24/7 and kept all the windows/doors tightly closed. At odd points we had to use the air conditioner, but it didn't make things TOO bad.

GOod luck and stay indoors as much as possible. Get a purifier if possible, even a small one you can use for ONE room or something.

We have had your smoke up here in Southern Oregon. I feel for you and the animals. My girls are inside right now because of the heat...poor things were panting in the shade yesterday.

Hang in there and stay safe.

OMG the fire by us is creepy up on us....its very scary stuff!!!

well, i guess it would be better than burning :| I hope the fire fighters can put it out soon, in the paper it said that they just sent us the biggest water carrier in the world to fight it so that should help
