Snow Storm Surprize

I didn't read this entire thread. I got to the "concerned about a loaded gun" remark and I see red.
I'm so tired of hearing how EVIL guns are. That probably wasn't even the posters intent. I still see red.
Our country is being taken down a path to gun confiscation and outright socialism and it scares the hell outa me!!
Our right to own weapons was put into our constitution for a reason. Our founding Fathers knew that WE may have to
protect ourselves from tyrants who will tell us its "for our own good". Our Constitution is being shredded a little more everyday.
Sorry for the rant completely off the original topic.

Thanks Jenny.... a trap (leg trap) such as that isn't acceptable to me, dogs, cats, teenagers.... too dangerous! We will need something as we are having lambs, goats and piglets as well... and a bear wouldn't likely fit in those traps !

We plan on taking to a local gun store fellow this week.. perhaps he can suggest something a bit more humane.

ETA.. Canadians aren't as pro gun as Americans, most of do not have one in our home let alone loaded however it is my opinion that if you are going to have a gun with the intent of protecting your livestock then the time it takes to load it and get to where you need to be is time wasted.. I have never shot a gun, never held a gun... my spouse has shot a couple so obviously we need to educate ourselves on the do's and don'ts of guns and protection, we may not end up getting one... please don't make this into a right to protection thread or anti gun thread... As a huge generalization, we canadians think entirely different about guns, they are utilitarion.

BTW - If a person broke into my home I would not shoot them... I have dogs for that!!

Here it is.. But I must warn you, America and Canada are on different sides of the fence regarding firearms in a lot of instances

haha... Canada tried a fire arms registration a few years back to controll guns.... but seriously what criminal would register their gun. They discontinued it last year!

To the poster from N IL who asked about mink. (This is a picture from my trapline many years ago in N.E. IL. Those are mink pelts on the fender and that's a huge male mink I'm holding.)

To the person who asked about eating them.

They smell really bad. They have scent glands like a skunk and the stink is a very penetrating musky smell. Hard to imagine eating one. (and I've eaten muskrats and possums)

Good catch on the mink!

....oh.. and I keep several of the guns in the house loaded. You may never need to have a loaded gun immediately available... but if you do, you'll need it really badly!

Yes I saved him- hopefully will get him sold to a fur buyer / taxidermist.

Do they live in Illinois too?? I hope not now!

Yes they are in IL.

Last year we lost 18 mandarins, both colored and white, a falcated drake, 2 chiloe widgeon, 1 smew, a silver redhead and a few others to a mink in one night. This spring we lost several Snow & Blue geese to a mink and it scared all of them off the nest- including Barnacles, Barheads, Cacklers, Richardsons & Aleutins, so our hatch was not very good!

Scary thought, theres a space in my run thats too small for a raccoon to fit through but one of those could fit through for sure. Not good!

We have a trap like that but I'm afraid to use it because we most likely catch a skunk. My son set it and caught our cat, she wasn't happy at all. The coons, possoms and skunks apparently play nicely with our cats, there is one skunk that used to cuddle with our cat!
