I dusted my chicks with 5% Food Grade Sevin. Like EVERYONE on here suggested. Now they are all twitchy, and sneezy and lethargic. I didn't get it into their eyes or beaks. But when I set them in the brooder they started pruning

I feel like a pile of poop and my DH will not let me replace these

Food Grade shouldn't kill them. 5% has a hard time killing fleas. Lower the lights to lower activity levels and fluff them outside the brooder with a hand held hair dryer on cool. let me know if you try it how it works out.

Only responding to original post of owners statement of food grade and what that implies. I said it has a hard time killing fleas not that it wouldnot. Sorry it seems I ruffled feathers, but the bottom line is if they are reacting, maybe some of it should be taken off. This will be my last post. Thanks everyone. My first day on.

Is it possible that you got the dust in their nares?

That would likely make them at least sneeze and might cause other issues.

In the US, Sevin is no longer labeled for use on poultry, Dow requested that it be withdrawn for that use and that request was approved.

They are 2 weeks old and they have lice. I took some chicks from a broody hen who wasn't being a 'good' mommy and added them to my hatchery chicks. Hence the spread of the lice.

Honestly... wash them. I know they say not to get chicks wet but use warm water and keep them warm and draft free until they dry... wont take too long if you help them out with a towel too...

What age are they? I don't even use Sevin around my adults... seems scarey. Now, Diotomacious Earth... yes...

I'd wash them off fast. Lots of water too.... fresh clean water often. even if you force them a sip or two each.

ETA: change bedding... daily. twice if needed. Dump the old stuff away from the house and also... you might think of old towels that can be washed and used again. That's a preference, but I have done it before... lots of loads but you know it's clean everytime.
