As a breeder of CKC registered labrador retrievers, who are fully tested and proven, I am hurt by a statement like this. There is no difference in the quality of my dogs vs AKC dogs. I have worked very hard to have quality bred litters that fully meet the breed standard and make excellent pets aswell as show dogs.

I know you ment me no personal offence by this statement becuase you dont even know me, but this statement makes all CKC registered dogs sound like trash!

Then why not register with the AKC and get the recognition you deserve.

I am in the buisness to better the breed not for recognition. I dont want to turn this thread into a debate on CKC vs AKC. I just simply want to clarify that all CKC dogs are not bred by BYB's and that there are very well bred dogs from great lines that are CKC registered. I have never been discriminated against due to being a CKC vs AKC breeder.

I'd be disappointed too, but I guess I figure it's first come first served when it comes to free. They may not have said anything to the daughter when they came home, or maybe her daughter had it spoken for before she ever talked to you and the mom wasn't aware of that. I do think she should have called you and let you know as soon as she found out the remaining pup was gone tho.

Not all CKC dogs may be bad, just as AKC doesn't necessarily mean good. I would probably never go past the CKC sign though. I would wonder why not AKC as it is the most recognized registry? It's like taking the Ferari emblem off the hood and sticking on one from an LTD. The car is still the same, but why would you do it?

Another option for the OP would be to get a slightly older dog. A puppy that was kept back as a show prospect that didn't pan out or an older dog that is retiring.

Out of curiousity are you thinking CKC Canadian Kennel Club or CKC Continetial Kennel Club

We are Canadian Kennel Club

when anyone mentions "avoid ckc" they are meaning continental. That's part of the reason they chose the name I'm sure.

Soooooo Soorrry. I ment Continetial Kennel Club was the one started by puppy mill folks to get around the AKC inspections.
I LOVE Canada.

Aye, I think this was a blessing in disguise. I would be suspicious of a free basset puppy. I also think it would not be fair to take a puppy from someone who had already met it (I strongly encourage you both to go and meet various pups/dogs before choosing which one you both fall in love with), as the fault lies with the ad poster. They also have a right to refuse anyone an animal while it is in their possession (unless money exchanges hands), despite a loose verbal agreement. Dissapointing as it seems right now, I would take this as a good thing, and keep looking until the right dog comes along.

sorry, couldn't really type on my phone earlier. Canadian Kennel Club is an excellent registry. ConKC is a scam, one of several in the US. I'm sure that Canada has a few of those as well. Sadly, most of the people in the market for puppies don't know the difference.
