so i found a pigeon....

my cousin and i found a pigeon beside our house. Its wing is hanging down a d dragging, and it has a bunch of feathers torn of with a bit of blood on its shoulder. I cant tell if it is broken, nut i think it is. Any ideas On how to help?

Check for external injuries and treat anything you find with hydrogen peroxide. Then bandage it. You should feel the wing for anything out of place. I believe it is dislocated and you need to CAREFULLY move it back into place. Proceed to splint it out like it is gliding and bandage it that way, so it can heal. Then give it some water and food.

I have actually wanted a pigeon for a while. What should I feed it? I gave it some sugar water, and it guzzled it, but I don’t think bread is the soulution.

Your right bread isn’t good for it. Not enough nutrients. Try to feed it some budgie seeds or pigeon seeds. But please don’t get to attached to it. I had a dove that I raised from a baby and when it died 3 days after her first birthday I was devastated. Post pics tho!

Should I bandage it? The injury is scabbing over, so I don’t know if I should wash it.... or how to really. I have only dwelt with ground birds, and I have never had one with a broken wing.

Is this a wild pigeon? If so I would not keep him for yourself and try to tame the bird. Please consider calling a local wildlife rehabilitator and see if they would be willing to take in the bird..
