So I Have decided to start breeding meat chickens

I have very little time,
I do not recall the name of the toad thread..I know Moppet knows it...

Leghorns would be counter to the toad body style (SOP) owned and directed by me.

I do not consider the toads done yet. I am still tinkering with them. I think I am on 7-8th year and 8-10 generation...I got two generations a couple years. BUT I would not recommend that..too hard to do and nothing good came of it.

Egg prodiction is not as problem, they are laying machines and the eggs are (as I recall) 4 ounces.....they are HUGE! Like a turkey egg.

I would not use Leghorns, nor would I use standard hatchery Barred Rocks. Frankly, I wouldn't use hatchery birds at all if you're looking for large meat birds, unless you want to use some of the slow growing broilers like the Rangers. I butchered four hatchery Barred Rock hens a couple weeks ago, two years old. They all weighed 2lbs6oz, except for one that was 2lb10oz. I butchered some standard bred (exhibition, heritage, whatever you like to call birds bred toward the SOP) Barred Rock cockerels a few months ago. At 16-18 weeks they all butchered out at or above 4lbs.

Red Ranger and Large Fowl Cornish sounds like a good starting place to me for a meat bird.

The husky red does as well as a ranger just grows faster. That's about all I know about a husky lol. Other then red feathered.
