nope agreed...it seems more and more schools want everyone to look the same dress the same...ect... the cookie cutter effect as I call it..
I got told that I had to buy a certain brand of crayons for my DD to go to grade 1 cause then everyone had the same and then they did not get kids with the great colours upsetting the kids with the plain colours...

Sadly, a whole lot of things such as this are caused initially by parents complaining. Sigh...the school has to work hard to try to please everyone which, as we know, is impossible.

It sounds like somebody on the staff likes to make their own policy. If it bothers you this much, you should talk to the teacher, the nurse and the principal.
if I have sent my child to school like that then I don't see a problem with it... who is she to tell me whats right or wrong for my child?..Quote
my son used to go to one school wear a tee-shirt that said why are you still talking i am ignoring you cute little monkey on it the school never said a word we moved so he had to change schools wore the shirt one day and came home and told me he was told he could not wear the shirt to school .. ok I do not let my kids wear clothes with pot leaves or any drug , illegal or vulgar things on them but a 9 year old wearing a shirt with a saying on it please.. I get mad because the school system does not pay for their clothes .
yes they have to have rules and that is ok but I do believe they over do it...when we went to school we did not have all these rules and I made it through school. the teachers where more interested in teaching then worrying about someones hair or clothing..

One of the districts I drive through won't even let the kids wear clothing with skulls on them. My 9 y/o would go into a coma.....one reason my kids don't go there. I like to make sure there is a great balance of education, self expression, diversity......*sigh* choosing the right school IS a huge challenge.
Oh, and when I was a kid the rules were FAR worse!!! Girls couldn't wear boys shirts, boys could not have facial hair (I guess girls could?) and their hair couldn't touch their collar. We couldn't wear shorts or sleeveless shirts....the list goes on and on. But hey, you could smoke!!! LOL

it was a shirt like that, that my son had on when the school made him take it off and wear a shirt out of the lost and found..he came home with his shirt in a bag with a note saying that it was not appropriate to wear this to school
and yes skulls was also a big problem.. we have a new principal this year...no more problems with skulls anymore
