3 weeks ago a loose Husky mix came into my yard and killed my Ameraucana roo. He tried to get to others but DH was able to take him down before more could be lost. I had to go to court today and that stupid cow had the gall to say that her mutt was worth $800 and not worth "just a chicken". I can't stand it when people assume their pets should have more rights on MY property than mine. The Judge agreed with me and they will have to pay for my chicken as well as a healthy fine. I just hope they don't try to retaliate and hurt more of my babies. I put some of his eggs in the bator but only one started to develop and it stopped I think. I miss talking to him every day, the way he took care of his girls, and his crow. Just wanted to share with people I knew would understand how much I hurt right now. RIP Fancypants Jack.

what i don't understand why some people think that dogs are as important as children, even if they are unruly and nasty. but think any other pets are useless

I'm sorry for your loss, and happy that you DH was able to stop the destruction before that mutt got all you birds. I like dogs so don't get me wrong, what i don't like is Irresponsible people who think that a lose dog is to be forgiven

If I had to make a guess I would think that you should be careful if they knew that they were in the wrong and took you to court anyway. I sure hope that this situation is over and you both can move on. Once a dog kills I have always been told that they will return until everyone is gone. Some dogs are just like that, while others are not. If your neighbor loved her dog so much she would of made sure that it stayed in her yard. After all the dog could of been hit by a car while wondering the streets.

If her dog was worth $800.00 you would think she would have taken better care of it. People need to realize pets come with responcibility. Sorry about your beautiful roo.

It's too bad that the dog wasn't valuable enough to them to bother keeping it in their own yard. Would they think that, if they owned a prize bull worth thousands, that it would be OK to let it run loose maiming and destroying? Would they think it was OK if another neighbor had a $2000 dog that got in their yard and killed their $800 dog? People are idiots.

Mr Fancypants looks like as fine a rooster as anyone ever had now... I am so sorry for your loss. Thankfully your husband did the right thing. Hopefully you can get another good rooster to fill his spot. Won't ever take his place, but he can maybe call the hens, crow a bit, strut and put some pizzaz back in the yard. So sorry...

Thank you all for the sweet replies. Part of my anger comes from actually feeling bad for her, before I heard her speak. I wrapped up her dog and kept if for 5 days in case she wanted to bury it. She didn't though so I had to take care of mine and hers. She also said she has more huskies at home like it.

I will be keeping an eye out for her, I know her vehicle cause she peeled out of the lot after she lost and the officer told me where she lives without giving her actual address. It is great to come on here and be reassured that there are still good people out there, I wish I had you guys for neighbors instead of people like her.
