So sad!

:welcome :frow I can relate to your feelings. I had a fox not long ago and kill my favorite hen. I cried like a baby for letting her out while I was occupied. I wanted revenge so I set out some live traps and baited them. I let the fox take the bait for a few times so it would get used to going in the trap then I set it. I put a camera up so I could watch. I caught it. I'm sure it was the one that killed my Gladys. She was taken during the middle of the day and I saw one on camera.

I think that many predators have regular routes. I had a couple of fox I would see fairly regular on a camera. One was a female and she had a lighter spot on her tail next to her rump and a male that had no spot. She would squat in front of the camera and the male would lift his leg.

I would say kind of both, i had my neighbor come by and he said you know “it sucks but circle of life” I agree but I’m worried about this animal coming into my yard and possibly approaching my dogs.
The fox isn't sick, if that is what you are concerned about. She has young to feed this time of year so she will kill as many chickens as she can get. I understand, believe me. We lost 20 to a fox last year(in only 2 hits), and another dozen this year (husband let them out on one occasion when he shouldn't have).

Hi I am so sorry what you have gone through. About 5 yrs ago we had 16 beautiful
hens, i bred. Had them for 7yrs, locked them up every night, bar for this one night.
Next morning went to let them out, and what a horrid site, my girls were everywhere.
Although he got over a 6ft wall he could not get back over, with them, so left them.
That made it worse, and all because one night i did not lock them up. Still feel guilty.
My heart goes out to you, although i live in UK, did not even know we had foxes, as
live in a village. We had them for 7yrs and every night i locked them up, without fail.
So yeh, my fault and where you let yours out, i did not lock mine up. But please do not
blame yourself, how was you to know. It took over 5yrs for me to have more. But
hubby built a double coop with enclosed run with roof, further down our garden. I
know it will take you a while to get over, all this as you are also in shock and upset.
Just hope it will not stop you having more. As can tell how much you loved them.
I can also understand why you hate that fox. Even though he has to survive or feed his young. But when they kill and leave them all over that makes it worse, for us. So my
heart goes out for you. Hope you feel better soon. :love

OMG! It’s a horribly hot and humid day here in Ct. I let my sweet girls out to enjoy the early morning dew. My dogs were out for a bit then wanted to come in. All the girls were enjoying themselves. I couldn’t see out my back slider doors because of the moisture build up from the humidity outside, then I noticed something strange. At first I thought a white plastic bag was on the grass until I looked closer, it was my sweet chicken Pixie! Feathers were everywhere... I screamed NO no no ! Then I saw the rest of the massacre Lola, Stormy, and Shelly all dead all over my yard! I couldn’t find my two little bantams Spressly and Feeny! I called my husband at work and we both cried! I know it sounds crazy to have such emotions for chickens but we Love them! Three of the girls we had for over 5 years! I can’t believe they are all gone! I walked around my yard and picked the four girls up, I keep looking out back to see if somehow my bantam girls survived, but I know in my heart they didn’t. Then I saw it.... a red fox came out of the brush at the back of my yard! I feel so terrible that I let them out! I want to shoot that bastard!
I’m so so sorry.
We had a somewhat similar experience with a fox. Only this happened at night a few months ago not 2 weeks after my dog died. The fox we had got in through the wire roof and killed 11 hens and left my poor rooster half dead only to die in my dads arms later. This was our first time of them killing all our chickens. We had another fox come last year and my dad saw it’s glowing eyes under the torch. I have only had 2 attacks during the night and those are the 2 I covered. I remember middle of last year my sweet silky hen Pebbles got taken. I had just get home from school and I noticed the chicken yard covered in her feathers. I was so upset and angry.
I’m so terribly sorry for your losses. Even though I know and understand their need to feed themselves and their young I don’t see why kill all of them and not take even one.
