I have to delouse everyone again in 10 days and will make sure to get out the flashlight and pull those feathers with resident nits, I'm not taking any chances.

Can eggs or lice fall into bedding and survive there, like mites?
 
Their eggs don't fall off the feathers much if at all, they are kind of glued on; my impression is that lice can't survive "long" (days? a week?) off a bird. It would not however be a terrible idea to either change out all your bedding right after you delouse the birds themselves, or at least mix a reasonable (ie not excessive, so not dust-causing) quantity of DE into the bedding at that time... can't hurt, might help. Still suspect that the reservoir for reinfestation is probably the birds themselves, though.
