So this happened today....

He does have the hookless gene, and nice dark skin. If he has nice temperament and you like him, I would keep him just for the interesting mixes, but obviously don't misrepresent your stock by calling them 'silkies', if you plan on selling chicks or eggs (as the seller did to you).

That isn’t how I operate on any level. I’m seriously doubtful of the ability to sell anything here in my area anyway which why I’m so dang worried about the rest of the roosters knowing they can’t all be housed together. I’m worried sick about them. I can’t and won’t do to other people what got done to me

If you wish to keep them all, you can do, but you'll either need a LOT more hens, or a special little 'bachelor pad' for the boys to live in with a big run and no contact with the girls.

So i get out here and the dude got shut down yesterday for selling chickens without a license boy did I make rookie mistake

I would definitely keep that rooster! He is really pretty nice for a mix! You have a nice pair with him and that hen! They will have beautiful chicks...

Silkie roosters are usually really sweet. I kept 3 of them together for quite a few years (until they individually died of old age). They were my pets when I was a kid, and I don't think they were all Silkie either. The hen might have been, she had the really dark skin and a nice top knot. My mother didn't want a lot of chickens so my hen only hatched eggs once, predators got 2 and the ones left roosters. They lived for years there with their parents. And they all fussed over that hen, calling her over whenever they found a bug or something good to eat and she would run over, grab, and go! I don't think that would have worked for any other breed, but I didn't know any better and I guess no one told them they weren't supposed to get along either! Trouble comes when you try to keep them with other bigger chickens that aren't so nice. Oh, and bantams come in about as many types as regular chicken breeds, it just means they are bred to be small. Silkies are bantams too.

People are breeding silkies to create designer breeds like the "showgirl" (I think must be crossed with a naked neck), and a link here to designer blue/black/splash/paint blue egg laying silkies, none of them are exactly purebred either... Sorry, can't get that link to work, but if you google Whispering Oaks silkies it will get you there.

Thanks! You have been awesome and youbsure have lessened the blow on my purchase adventure! I think I’m gonna see how this goes cause I kinda like em. I will see how the Amberlink Roo and maybe Jersey Giant Roo does too. But think I will attempt to find them a new home

Yes, you kind of need to decide what direction you want to go... Can only speak for myself, but for pets and just being a small breeder, Silkies, purebred or not, can't be beat...
I really think the mixes are kind of prettier, because they have bred the purebreds to have so much feathering on their head and beards that you can't even see their faces anymore, which is kind of sad. I have to wonder if they can even see out?
