So, what do we all do with our first eggs?

Our first egg was actually three. Whitey (white with a few black-splotched feathers and tiny bit of floof on her head) the mutt chicken started her laying career in a secret nest rather than the boxes in our coop. My daughter found them and was convinced that hens can lay that many in one day. Daughter and her twin brother (who wouldn't eat a store egg if his life depended upon it) demanded over-easy asap. We were surprised as Whitey was barely 4 months old. Our second hen, Speckle, watched the first few week of laying with rapt attention and then joined in. We've gotten 2 lovely, now almost large-sized, brown eggs near daily. Whitey still seeks out secret spots to lay now and then. Can't wait to see if we've got any pullets among our current batch of 4-week old EO and SFH chicks.

After 10 days of 2 a day, we're now looking for inventive ways.

Frittata for dinner tonight.

For some reason, this thread made me think of a video on YouTube that someone showed me about a year ago. It still makes me laugh every time I watch it.

Sorry about the title.

Funny video.

Ok, I took a picture of my second tiny egg next to the first.
I believe both are from the same chicken. I don't think the others are ready to lay just yet. The strange thing about the second egg is that it has a hole and a crack in it. I won't eat it. I wonder if it was pecked?

Another beautiful egg!

It could be a peck or she just stepped on it or was standing when it came out... Is the shell thin and/or brittle?

BTW, Unless it was poopy if it were out in the next less than a few hours I give it the sniff test and then probably would eat it, but I am pretty flexible.

The shell seems quite hard. It wasn't poopy, but I would rather not take any chances. No eggs today. She seems like an every other day girl. I can't wait for the others to get going!
