I have a 6 week old Bantam Duckwing (i think!) who is very whiny and needy. She's always trying to get under the bigger chickens' wings to cuddle-other than that, she does everything normal.

Her crop though is soft. It feels almost like it's a bubble...very soft and fluid-y feeling. Like I said, she's normal except for the neediness, but she also does this weird thing with her neck. She stretches it up and moves her head around, sort of like a gag, but it also looks like she's trying to rearrange her neck. Does that make sense?

I'm taking my Francine to an avian vet today to look at her eye, which is still giving her problems, so I'll ask the vet what this could be. I'd really like some real chicken ppl to give me an opinion though.

Thanks everyone!

no idea on the squishiness (though putting a few drops of acv in their waterer might help any bacterial issues) and giving her three drops of POLYVISOL Enfamil once a day for a week wouldnt hurt and might help. try a bit of bread soaked in olive oil as it might be a piece of shaving got stuck in her esophagus.

Thanks for the advice!

What would the enfamil and olive oil soaked bread do? Could her crop be impacted? It feels like a water balloon..like there's alot of water or fluid in there.

Her water already has ACV in it.

the crop is moving things through too slowly it seems... (crop stasis)
\\Withhold feed for 24 hours and check the crop in the morning to see if it has emptied or gone down
The enfamil will address the most common vit deficiencies (A-B-D)
The bread with oil was because it seemed as though your bird might have had an bit of bedding or such stuck in esophagus but that might not be such a good idea to give that if you do not think this is the case.

Here is info on crop stasis:

I brought home 10 Orpington chicks three days ago. When I got them home I noticed that one of them had a huge bubble on the right side of his breast/neck area. I am new at this so I didn't really know for sure what it was and I searched the BYC forums for help. After gathering info I gave the chick (they are about 1 1/2 weeks) 2-3 drops of olive oil out of a 3ml syringe. I massaged the crop until it was very pliable between my fingers. The chick actually seemed to enjoy it. I did this for two days giving the olive oil only once a day and he is completely normal now. I never thought something so abnormal and almost grotesque could be normal again. This forum is a chicken life saver and I am so thankful to be able to come here whenever I need help. Thank You everyone!
