Whoohoo!
Our first package will be mailed tomorrow. We're hoping it will arrive in time for Veteran's Day. There are autumn notecards (at least 40), Christmas cards (around 150), thank-you cards, flower & butterfly notecards, and thank-you cards. The large flat-rate box is FULL of cards! There are also some Christmas stickers to use as greeting card seals for those so inclined.

The youngest drew a really cute card to send with the package. I'm going to try and scan it because it's so cute. She does really neat drawings and rarely colors them in. She wanted to color this one in but I didn't give her enough time.

This has been a neat family project. My hubby is a retired Army supply sargeant, so he understands the scope of what you are trying to do. It's made for some good family conversations. My youngest has helped with the box of stationary. My oldest will help me do a box of other needs next week.

I sent 14 pounds of cards w/ envelopes this morning.

The guy that runs the post office was so sweet and very tickled about sending the box. He gave me lots more boxes and forms to make the next package easier. He opens his little PO at 7am, and it's on my route to work, so that makes it really convenient to get these care packages on their way.

And you get a piece of bubble gum after each transaction. He's such a cutie! Picture a 70+ year old guy with a big hearing aid in a little PO on a back road in TN. I may see if he can accept future boxes of eggs for me. I know he'd take care of them. He feeds the wild turkeys on really cold mornings when the PO business is slow.

***I told dh things may come to him via backyard chicken friends.....he told me to "Tell my friends thank you and that he appreciates the prayers...they've been blessed and safe thus far."

He is going to be moving soon....so I edited out my post with his information...since at this time he would probably no longer recieve it since they are in transition.

Thank you one and all for reaching out to our service people including my husband and nephew.

Love in Christ,
Gretchen

Athena, How do you suggest we send soccer balls to you? They certainly can't fit into the flat rate box...Is there some way to deflate them? I could fit lots more into a box than if they were full size balls...but can you blow them back up over there? We are sending a few boxes of other stuff over but will try and figure out how to get soccer balls to you. Keep up the great work!

Cass,
as soon as I get them, I will post!!..

I emailed the chaplain and the chaplains assistants about the impending packages, they are excited too!!

I got a huge 20 box shipment from The Elks of Vacaville, CA. Home-made cookies, breads, all vacuum sealed... As fresh as the day they made them. They shipped on the 27th, I got them on the 2nd.
A huge crowd of troops gathered in the TV room to watch the election results, and it was cookies and coffee that kept us awake.

So, Cass, any day now....lol... In fact, Im going to stop by the stockrooom this morning to see what came in.

Thank You Darlene...
I look forward to getting it..

I got a laugh today, at Troy's I am known as the recycle lady, cause I don't throw anything away. I re-use everything, and even if I don't, I put it on the shelves, and someone takes it...

Troops leave and leave their half filled bottles of shampoo, etc, I put it back on the shelves, and folks use it.. I mean, its still good, and why not??? Esp if thats all we have.

Got to do, what we have to do!

My hubby (soccer player) said you should be able to just stick the needle in and deflate the ball.

They would need a needle and pump on the other side to re-inflate it.
