Who Can Solve This Mystery?
The Plot: I have 8 hens, they're 7 mos old. Four RIR, 3 Barred Rock, 1 Delaware. Average is 7 eggs per day and they lay before noon. One occasionally prefers afternoon laying, and one doesn't lay every day. The 4 RIRs lay perfectly formed, large brown eggs. The 3 Barred Rocks lay light brown, medium, pointy eggs. Each night I check the nest boxes when I lock them up to make sure they're clean and fluffy. Last night? Empty as usual.

The Mystery: At 10 am this morning, there were 13 eggs in the same nest box. 13 brown, perfectly formed, lovely, large eggos.
(oh, +1 light brown, meduim, pointy egg laid in the bunkhouse just now)
Twelve hrs ago - all the nest boxes were empty. Zero eggos.
Now? *poof!* 14 eggos out of 8 hens.! Magic? Or are my hens really bad at math?

Worth knowing:
The neighbor down the road gets his eggs from me becasue his two old hens don't lay anymore. His hens have never walked the 1/2 mile to my yard.

My best guess: I have confused egg gremlins who donate eggs instead of stealing them. Or I have gremlins who lay eggs. Idk. Help.

Interesting... 🤔
I've never heard of someone getting that many extra eggs in one day. Maybe one extra since a hen "could" lay 2 times in a 24 hour period. Are you sure you checked the boxes beforehand? Is someone playing a joke on you? Are they ceramic or fake eggs you have in the box? Lol.

I don't know the answer, but I'm curious to see what others are going to say. :pop

I'm the only human on this rural property. Its fenced, gated, motion alarmed and security camera'd. INDEED the eggs were too perfect to be real - so pretty! But nope - they're real eggs.

@JustBabyMargo Part of my nightly routine is to check and fluff the nest boxes. Just in case mice or snakes - or gremlins - got into Fort Chicken during the day.
(Once locked at night, the biggest opening is 1/2" x 1/2" hardware cloth)
Guess I'll be putting a trail cam *inside* the Fort tonight. IDK what else to do.

If I crack open and egg and a gremlin pops out, Ima get you a pic 😜
Maybe a Silkie snuck in there

BAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!! Nice!!
I wasn't brave enough to break open the giant weird egg. I gave it to a friend who wanted it and recommended she "boil it for well over 5 minutes and have a big, sharp knife handy when you crack it open".
Here's a pic of the weird one. It weighed 3.2 oz. no way it came out of my hens. Its way bigger than any double yolker they've laid and its UGLY - the top is all bumps and dimples, it has ridges, wrinkles and you can't rly see, but it looks like it has veins running through it.
