One of my chicks chirps really loudly when Its dark like it is afraid of the dark, I'm not using a heat lamp, I'm using a room heater off to the side so she is really mad, anybody else ever had a bird afraid of the dark?

Most likely this little one did not "go to bed" like everyone else did at the appropriate time and ended up outside of the sleeping area when it finally got dark and is now lonely and not happy about that period have you tried simply placing the chick under the heat source with the other chicks? Sometimes I have a couple of stubborn babies that don't go to bed on time, and do this so it might take a night or 2 of repetition for them to learn that when everybody else goes under the heat source so should you because it's Fixin to get dark

Well, chicks need to have a certain amount of light to eat and drink.
I brood my chicks with a light and notice they are awake every hour eating and drinking then settling down again.
While true, chicks brooded naturally… with a normal day-and-night cycle or under a broody hen… learned from the beginning that they sleep through the night. Chicks brooded with light are only up eating and drinking throughout the night because the light is there throwing off their natural sleep cycle.

Thanks guys, she took a bit to settle but is quiet and snuggled with the others now, they are used to the natural daylight (although it does get light /darker sometimes if I turn on a light in my room because they're in the room next to mine) the little black one in the middle is the noisy baby jinx lol

My babies cry and carry on every night. I cover their brooder, (clear tote), with a dark towel but I leave the light on, (dusk). I’ll give them about 15 minutes to do their thing and see if they will go in their MHP. But every night, without fail, I have to take them one at a time and put them under their MHP. Once under they quiet down and do their little bedtime chirps for a couple minutes, then peace and quiet. They are a couple weeks old and I do this every night. YES they are spoiled, I love tucking my babies in. :love:jumpy

If they have the sun to guide them, they do this all on their own. They'll notice the sunlight fading and load their crops full in anticipation of nightfall. And then they tuck in and are quiet until morning.

Chicks aren't "afraid of the dark" but they dislike going to bed hungry and if they cannot find a safe sleep place, that would also generate fear.

When I look at the OP's setup, I see three chicks that aren't sure where to sleep. If there is no discernable warm spot, they may be cold as well as confused.
