I just finished reading this thread and I wanted to tell you that you are doing a wonderful job caring for your flock. I too have been anxiety-reading threads on here lately because I have had a hen go ill too. She sadly passed. I am really glad that Link is better now. I also wanted to point out that chickens won't lay eggs every day or every day at the same time. They lay about every 26 hours. This means that they will lay about 2 hours later each day. And depending on when it is night, they won't lay an egg. I don't think stress would immediately affect egg laying because the eggs start developing a while before, I'm not an expert on this, that's just my thought about it. Here is an article about egg laying: https://thefrugalchicken.com/how-often-do-chickens-lay-eggs/
Thanks for this. I'm sorry you lost your bird, they have such big personalities and when I lost Daine I definitely got emotional. :hugs

Link hadn't laid in 2-3 days which was what initially had me concerned because I've never dealt with an eggbound hen before. When she started just...standing hunched over I definitely knew something was wrong but not what or how to fix it. Happily, a day and a half of rest and then reintroducing oyster/giving calcium has helped.

Numair needs a new home because I think the other contributers are correct, he needs a larger flock (and also having him is probably super illegal and definitely annoying to my suburban neighbors) but until somebody forces me to give him up, I'll keep him and keep looking for a new home. I knew more or less what I was getting into, but I appreciate the kind words because sometimes I do wonder if I'm just making things worse. 😫

I wish I lived closer to you! I have the opposite issue. My flock is too large and the hens are bullying each other. I'd love to get a rooster to calm them down and be the top dog of the flock.

Same!! I know HPAI and state lines are a thing but I would love to get this boy to a group that could use his...er, attention hahaha. And I feel awful keeping him locked up when its not really his fault roos are just...like that.

Tentatively coming to the conclusion that at least 8 hours of freedom from Mr. Roo's attention is about the right amount of time. I've let him out earlier and we're back to 2-3 eggs/day. But Link is hanging out more with the crew, which is definitely one of those "Yeah, maybe I won't get eggs but at least she's not stressed so much she's hiding from everyone" things.

Idk, not even the rescues will help me with him. I'll figure something out. Eventually. For now, we'll have a bachelor pad/house roo and see how things go.
