I don’t like the idea of selling eggs even with chickens, I never sold an egg and I don’t think i will ever do it, the things that could go wrong is too many and i like to stay safe!

Large breeders will not risk their reputation by selling eggs and letting the Post Awful ruin them. All the birds in Othmans and my post are very expensive birds, Othman may have paid up to $2000 for some of them plus the importing and shipping fees. Not only do we risk a bad reputation over eggs that won't hatch, but selling an egg for $25 to $50 when we can hatch and raise a bird that sells for $500 to $1500 just doesn't work out for us economically. Othmans birds are of very rare quality. Birds like his produced in the US are normally shipped out of the country and we just don't get a chance to buy them here. What makes them so valuable and why are the high quality birds shipped overseas?

There is no Standard of Perfection in peafowl but aficionados who are in the know will give top dollar for extreme quality birds. Those birds take years and years to perfect, not only is there a lot of work but some luck is in involved too. Consider that it takes three to four years for Greens and High Spauldings to mature and show their genetics. You may raise a bird for all those years to be a bust or it may prove itself and be a good step up in the process of upping the % of the birds you are working towards. It takes many generations to produce those High percentage Spaulding Pieds, Whites, and colors, so when the really good ones are ready for sale they are going to the highest bidder.

Royalty and very wealthy people are more than willing to pay for the best specimens that can be found anywhere, so when the breeders that produce those birds sell they normally sell out of the country.
