I wouldn't say that this is the largest ecological disaster man has created...WWI & WWII were the largest ecological disasters comparetivly, culminating in Hiroshima & Nagasaki...the two most singular ecologcial disasters man has ever created...

BP does not plan on stopping the leak. They plan on scavenging anything they can that's spilling out of that hole.
The oil we're seeing along the coast is nothing compared to whats under the surface. It spreads for miles at all different depths. A few berms of sand isn't going to beat this. This doesn't affect just a few states in the US. It's heading up the north Atlantic. Global help is needed . Who do you want to help if you don't want help from any governments?. Other country's have offered solutions. Our government decided they were to expensive. BP is responsible for the bill, it shouldn't be an issue....... I want my government to make those SOB's close that hole & stop that leak. If they don't stop the leak, all the clean up in the world wont do a dam thing.

So, you really think BP doesn't want to plug this thing up? Really?? I can't understand how it benefits BP to let this oil keep gushing into the gulf. That make no sense whatsoever. It's a horrible mess, and I'm sure BP would like this thing contained just as much as anyone-probably more since they're footing the bill. And as long as it's not plugged or contained somehow, that bill increases. So, yeah, I'm pretty sure BP would like nothing more than to stop this oil from spilling into the ocean.
And, as for the government doing anything but point fingers, I wouldn't count on it.

Like I said earlier--- no use.

You are talking nonsense.

The only way BP can make money out of that field is to stop the leak. Scavenging oil-- you have got to be joking. That comment is not even worthy of response. At what corporate level are you employed by BP? You are pulling information out of thin air. Corporations operate on the dollar. The dollar is a much bigger incentive than anything the guberment can make'em do. Picture a 10 year old kid that has been told to clean his room, when he really don't want to clean it.

You are commenting and giving opinion on a subject that evidently you have no knowledge.

Your goverment, make the SOBs, do what? Well nearest I can tell your goverment must be a different goverment than my goverment. The goverment might be able to do something, but it is going to be ten years before all the laws, regulations and codes get passed by congress. The wheels of goverment grind slowly, very slowly.

Who should help? The people who are experts. Not one goverment owns or employs deep water drilling experts. They are all employed by the corporations that do the drilling. In fact I would go so far as to say- a deepwater drilling expert that works for civil service rather than making the big bucks working for a drilling company, might not be the expert you need out their right now.

BP had more incentive to fix the leak than any goverment body. They had the almighty dollar.

I am going to say this one more time, either listen or not I don't care.

BP can not make money out of that well unless the leak is stopped. It can not be put into production as it is. The only way they can make anything out of the field is to stop the leak and redrill. Of course the guberment just took that incentive away, didn't they, a moritorium on offshore drilling.

Goverment regulation does not impact large corporations, it only affects Mr John Q Citizen. The corporation in this case BP, will make its money come heck or high water, even if they never drill another well. Mr Citizen however, will be 1- paying at the pump 2- all employed in the petro/chem industry will be looking for a job 3- all those that are employed in oil exploration will be looking for a job 4- we (The USA) will further enrich the oil producing countries of the world.

You are right a few sand berms will not stop the oil leak. But it would have lessoned the impact of that leak in that particular locallity if they would have been allowed to be built. The sand berms would have allowed more time to keep the oil out of the marshes. Clean-up is, well clean up is a joke. I can't imagine how you get oil out of a La marsh. It is not sand beaches, it's rousseau cane, gumbo mud, only inches above water level. To thick to swim in and way to thin to walk on. The sand berms were really the only effective measure, Corp of Engineers took that away, when they delayed in giving their approval.

I dont claim to have the answers that will solve the worlds problems!.............
You sound like a BP spokes person! They don't want to stop the leak because then there's no way they can harvest it if they close it off permanently. All along they have been coming up with ideas to capture the spilling oil,but not a single idea as to how to close off the leak permanently. Hmmm, why is that? They'd rather keep dropping straws (domes) down there to suck up what they can. Honestly, I'm aware the cost will eventually be passed to the consumer.
The help I refer to doesn't come from under water drill experts. More drilling sure as hell isn't the answer. Your foolish if you think other governments haven't already come up with ideas as to how to blow that hole closed or bury it under tons of debris to slow the flow of oil or stop it. The main effort needs to be put into plugging the hole. Our government has turned away help from other country's. Our president said their ideas are not cost effective. Cost should not be an issue.
To make it an employment issue is just plain stupid! People are extremely under educated when it comes to the dynamics of this spill. Lets pick up this discussion in about 1 year when the oil slick reaches European shores. & the hundreds of miles of underwater slick has reached the surface.

This is gonna make Hiroshima & Nagasaki look like child's play!...............I thought by now stopping this leak would be every body's priority....... I cant believe my thread turned into a debate
