I dunno... I will have to say that in the last 4-6 weeks, there has been a humongous increase in real estate/rental scams on craigslist nation-wide, as we had been house-hunting since the first weekend in March when our landlords told us our place was being sold & we had to move. They are all in the Rentals section and are fake rent-to-own ads. There is someone whose English is *very* poor and is pasting these ads on every CL that I've visited (we were looking for houses in several areas of California as well as Louisiana, southeast Texas, Nevada, and New Mexico). Those scam ads were in every single one of those craigslist markets, and every time I went househunting, I went through and flagged every last one of those scammer ads. In Lake Charles, Louisiana, 75% of the apartments/houses for rent on CL are the fake Rent-to-Own scams.
I'm not someone who has nothing better to do than flag people, but I also hate seeing people who are already obviously struggling financially getting targeted by scammers. It's one thing to target the rich, but it takes a special kind of sick person to target people already at the bottom of the financial barrel.
