Some people just make you wonder .....

mom'sfolly :

Reminds me of a line from the movie fried green tomatos that goes something like this:

Those folks won't sit down with no black person but they'll eat an egg just come out of a chicken's butt, that just don't make no sense.

I JUST watched that movie for the 11th time tonight. It just ended. (The secret's in the sauce!)

I brought a 1/2 dz green eggs to Christmas dinner so we could have Green eggs and Ham

I don't bother with people who are so ignorant - if they're closed minded about it, no use wasting your breath.

I have spent the last 40 years not eating fresh eggs, and only eating meat from the supermarket because hunting was cruel, and I don't want to eat anything that was killed cruely. Last week someone said something to me about commercial processing, and CLICK! I realized my reasoning has been all wet! Who's really cruel? I'm not going to run out and hunt or eat my pet chickens, but it has changed my opinions of those who do.

Time will tell I guess. We're getting several other kinds too and since they're more pets than anything here I won't sweat it! We got two a few years back that are probably Americana mixes or something like that. They both lay smallish white eggs.

I read Jane Goodall's book "Harvest for Hope: A Guide to Mindful Eating". She is a vegetarian but doesn't seem to expect everyone to be. It helped me see how important it is to really get closer to our food sources.
I raise my chickens and eat some of them too. I sometimes feel a little bit guilty when I get them processed but then I should feel guiltier if I buy inhumanely raised store birds, right?
I find myself being more careful when I buy store meat(it's origins) and am more careful about wasting meat too.
I really think it's important for our kids to see the process and sources of our meat(not necessarily the bloody part). If they become vegetarians - great - if not at least they will have respect for the lives of all the animals that supply us our protein.

Yes, I did actually - I'll be FULL of questions once I get started - mostly I think on keeping bugs off!

I believe it. I used to know a bunch of people (a whole gang of co-workers, not just a few) who had never eaten whole wheat bread. Whenever I opened my lunchbox in the cafeteria, they would all stare at the "weird" cheese-and-tomato sandwich on whole wheat bread. Also knew a few people who had never eaten roast chicken on the bone before--only boneless skinless "tenders" or defrosted nuggets. When I'd make baked garlic chicken for them, they'd pick at their food because they didn't know how to eat it.

DH used to work with a kid who ate nothing but hamburgers, well-done, and Kraft mac-n-cheese from a box. He wouldn't even eat a steak or regular pasta salad. Their boss took them to a swanky restaurant for Xmas one year, and the kid nearly broke down in tears and tried to order a pizza because he couldn't find anything on the menu he would deign to eat.

I really really want to raise chickens to eat, but I don't know if I can do it!
I have a person who is prepared to TEACH me, which will be fantastic and I will absolutly take her up on her offer (I've already taken two of her chickens - processed)
