some pictures of my Roos - - - anyone want to talk about *showing* ?

These can all be showed, but can not go any higher than their own class AOV, but they can win their class. They have to be showed before they will ever be recognized by ABA or APA.

ummmm ... might be a stupid question - but I guess I'll beg that the only stupid question is the one that goes unasked BUT...

would anyone mind going a little more in depth about AOV, ABA, APA ? ....

AOV - All other Variety. It's basically for a bird with a color not recognized by the breed's list of color variations. This way, the bird can compete conformationally, and that is all. It cannot even compete outside its own breed.

APA - American Poultry Association. They're like the AKC

They are what create and athourize what is recognized, what is the standard, etc.

ABA - American Bantam Association. This is like the APA but for Bantams.

Gold neck is a recognized d'uccle variety, so Minnie could also be shown with the prospect of going beyond BV.

Edited to add: Millie's beard is far too small and his wattles are too large for a d'uccle.

Interesting. Never heard of such variety.

It's basically mille fleur with the addition of dominant white. It's a beautiful pattern.

He would be a Booted Bantam, not a d'Uccle. BTW Millie's a funny name for a boy.

Typically AOV would be used for a variety not listed in the show catalog. For varieties named but not yet recognized the bird would be entered as the named varieties. Example: Blue Laced Red Wyandottes are not a recognized variety of Wyandotte. They are entered as Blue Laced Red Wyandottes not AOV Wyandottes.

No one has really answered the implied question yet so I will. Regardless of colour none of these birds should be expected to show well as they are lacking in breed type.

They were named as day old chicks without any inclination as to who they were going to be when they grew up...

There was:
Derby (Kentucky Derby)
Millie (Millionaires Row)
Minnie (mint julep)
Jule (mint julep )
Foster (Stephen C. Foster) ... Song Write of "My Old Kentucky Home"
Rose (run for the roses) ... the "title" because they have a big blanket of roses for the winner
Louise (Louisville)
Bonnie (bonnet ) another name for a HAT (because they are known for the big hats)
Chi-Chi (Churchill Downs)

I was thinking he could be considered a booted, but he looks like he's got just the slightest hint of a beard, which I did't think would be tolerated in a booted..
