Some Users Can't Post In Forum - May Be An IE Issue

Nifty, I tried to reply to the pm you sent but I am unable to do so. Every time I hit the send button it comes up aith a message to "please enter a message"

• What is the URL of the page that you got the error or had problems?
Just the usual pages/threads I visit.

• Did you receive any error messages? if yes, what were they (please copy and paste the entire message, screenshots are best)?
No, but in replying I cannot even change colors or size of fonts, there is no toolbar at all on the reply portion of the page. I cannot even do a screenshot to show you.

• What were the exact steps you took before having the problem? Please be as specific as possible so we can do exactly what you did.
logged out, dumped casch files, ran virus software, updated windows

• How long has it been happening? If only one time, what day and time did it happen?
for several days

• Which browser and version are you using (eg., Firefox 3.5.9, Internet Explorer 7, etc.)
IE 9

• Have you logged out, deleted your internet cache, logged back in, and tried again?
Yes

• Have you tried a different browser?

No
• Have you tried a different computer?

do not have access to one

when I try to send a message it says to please enter a message

When I previewed this and sent it, it was not one long paragraph either.

I am having problems, too. Often (3/4 tries), when I reply to a thread and press the submit button a spinning progress wheel appears with the message "submitting content" below it. Whenever this happens, the actual submission does not take place. I once waited 10 minutes, and the post did appear. Another time I laeft the computer for 2 hours, and nothing had happened.

However, if instead the message "Please wait" appears with a progress bar (not a wheel) beneath it, then the post is accepted within 1-2 seconds.

My initial approach last week was to select compatibility view. That worked temporarily. Since then, I've also logged out, flushed my cache and continued to employ compatibility view but the problem has not gone away.

I am using IE 9
Version: 9.0.8112.16421
Update versions 9.0.5 (KB2647516)
Cipher Strength: 256-bit

All of my plugins (eg.- Flash) are updated regularly as soon as updates become available.

I haven't had any issues with postings with Chrome at all.

Going to try the IE broken page and see if this will post.

Edit: Yep, it WORKED! Wooooo hoooooooooooo! Imp was right, the broken page icon worked!

Let's see if this works......I have to admit that I am just fishing about in an effort to replicate the problem.

It occurred to me that there are three ways to reply to a thread.

The first is to click the reply box that appears in the lower-right corner of each post. That way lies madness, for me. A series of page refreshes takes place and brings me automatically to the full page editor, and that is where I am having problems. There is little success to be had when I use this approach, which is the way I have typically tried to post.

The second is to click on the reply button at the end of each thread. Again, not a successful choice. Same as the first described above.

The third is for me to scroll to the bottom of the thread and type into the editor box that is found there. That is what I am doing here. I hope it provides a different result! I'll keep trying to narrow my experience down into a reproducible issue, but it might take a few days.

I would like to say I knew what I was doing. But have to admit I was just playing.
I found for a couple days it helped to click the button occasionally.
I also was having the font colors on BYC changing on their own, and links, and buttons. Seemed to be resolved last night, no more green, red or black links. lol.

Imp- guess I'll have to back to Haight-Ashbury for that.

We don't want members to be using the "compatibility mode", that was just a temp bandaid while we fix the real problem (which is suppose to be fixed now).

If you can't post please make sure to:

  1. Send me a Private Message with your browser and version (Like Internet Explorer 8)
  2. Include exactly what you are doing and exactly what is (and isn't) happening.

Have no idea what I did but following some of the directions in this forum I am now able to post again. I've been frantic for a couple days trying to find solution. Now hope it works on other threads. Thanks.
