Someone Asked for Suede ... Blue Orp Pics

I could look at blue orpington pictures all day. Your birds are lovely. So sorry about your Velvet, she was just beautiful.

As a side line, I had 10 chicks hatch from Jody's Buff Orpingtons on Friday night. She sent 16 eggs and I am so happy that I had so many hatch. I had several eggs with slight air sac damage but went ahead and set them and a few developed and hatched so don't give up hope on those eggs. Thanks again Jody.

Thank you and sorry about the loss of the one hen. When you breed blue to blue you get only blue right? Is the young pullet a daughter of your Suede? How do you get your blacks and splashes with only blue hens and roo? I must be confused I thought I read that you sell eggs, do you have other orp roos and hens you sell eggs from?
I hope I am not a pest, just love the pics you have posted and interested in what you might have eggs from to sell.

Cyn, all of your birds are beautiful and you always have great pics. I know what you mean about the moults. I have 2 buff orps this year that just dropped all of their feathers overnight. They are finally regrowing and looking slightly normal, but I wish they'd hurry up before winter hits here. lol My other girls seem to moult more gradually and it's a lot less noticeable.

Corancher - thanks for the great news and congrats on your hatch!

blue X blue = 50% blue, 25% black, and 25% splash (supposedly lol) Sorry Cynthia couldn't resist Hopefully you will get a splash next year?

Velvet was beautiful, sorry for your loss.

Thank you, I learned something new. I thought you would only get blue. I hope you get more variety too with that young pullet, she is very cute.

That's even better because you'll soon have your own line going. I'd like to buy a dozen of your eggs when your hens start laying because my rooster is the brother of my three hens. I've been told that that doesn't matter, but I am just not sure that the information is correct.

That isn't the best way to breed, Joe, but short term, it's okay. It just makes bad traits worse, is all. I have so many people asking for eggs, but I'm not doing a schedule like I did last time (nine months long!), having only three hens with Suede like I will when the pullets are older. Puts too much pressure on me, LOL.

Delilah is Suede's daughter with Velvet. She has a couple of faults I'd rather not propagate, so breeding her with her daddy wont be the best, though some have hatched a few of her chicks. She is only there still to keep him company, so Skye doesnt get all the attention. The pullet in the pic is Dusty or Smoky, dont remember which. They are very much alike so I have to see them together to tell them apart. Below is Delilah:
